Could you provide any contact details for the helpful person at Nissan please? The dealership have said they won’t help, and the ombudsman seemed to agree but I’m not giving up yet. I’ve also got a 2014/5 Dig-t engine that has loft compression in two pistons

Hi I’m new here, we bought our Nissan Qashqai (14 plate) 2nd hand from a dealer in 2019, we have recently noticed a rattle and it’s been in the garage and been told its timing chain on engine, along with burning oil which they have no diagnosis for as this is not a repair they carry out but mentioned could be pistons. We are panicking now having read this forum that we are stuck with a broken car that we rely on that we can’t get fixed. We tried to sell with webuyanycar who offered £2k, the car has only just done 50k miles so low for age. Not sure if we have any way of getting help for this with Nissan, is anyone able to help me with advice or experiences at all please that may help? Thank you x

Welcome to this forum - albeit in unfortunate circumstances.

This topic covers most of it. There are a few others too that people have started.

Nissan occasionally contribute but we've not heard so much in this respect recently, and it would only normally be considered if there was a full main dealer service history, which is unlikely with a ten year old car.

When I did a search on 1.2 Qashqai at Autotrader, it came up with 818 examples for sale, so I popped "chain" in the keywords section and that resulted in 52 examples - I checked several and they were all "the well known" timing chain replacements. Of those 8 had a mileage less than yours.

Let's see if anyone else wants to chip in.

Hi all

I'm here after finding super low oil level in my car, it's a pulsar 2015 reg but I guess has the same engine as this thread - 1.2 DIG-T 85kW (HRA2DDT).

I've done 3k miles since last service, which was about 7 months ago.

Had a log journey planned and checked the oil, which was barely on the dipstick. I've added 1L of 5w 30 which has bought it up to a shave over the minimum marker, so I assume I need another litre.

44k miles, I'm now wondering, is it just " a matter of time" before I get a £10k engine replacement issue...

So I guess for now, carry on topping up the oil and wait for the "spanner in a biscuit tin" sound (as someone on here described it) 🫠

In theory, if I kept the oil topped up, would the engine work as normal and not fail?

This depend on oil consumption level.
If the consumption is high, the oil will stick around valves and increase possibility of damaged valves

But if the consumption is low or moderate this will probably pro long engine's life
