HI
i have a 1.6 petrol 2009 with 65,000 miles on it ( just bought it} .Ive noticed after doing a oil and filter change that the car is using 0.5 litres of oil every 120miles ,I have flushed the engine changed filter and and oil again also air filter checked the PCV Valve { rattling nicely}. the engine sounds great but has bluish smoke from exhaust on tickover , motorway driving seems to use more oil than B road driving..
Any Clues, would be welcome

Welcome to the forum

I’m not in the slightest mechanically minded but in my humble opinion blue smoke suggests burning oil

I hope someone comes along with some sort of advice/help

Burning oil is burnt down valve s or past piston rings has car had regular service s you could move up a grade to 5w 40 if your on 5w 30 that's what we use to do in the olden days..... Iam 73 been building and servicing since 1965 seen engines which are finished after 30.000 miles because they did not get a regular service then it was 6.000 miles or 6 months

Hi all
Well 100miles later engine has gone oil in Piston no1 and metal too, mechanic says new engine or scrap, looking for the best way forward any clues if best to repair engine or second hand one, even think of doing it myself if I can get a engine lift, all ideas welcome.
Thanks

Probably best to go the second hand route, it's always going to be a crap shoot, I suspect as others have said yours was very poorly maintained, it's not worth throwing good money after bad on that engine i.m.o.

Probably best to find a decent 2nd hand engine or sink your money into something else.

Sorry you have either been duped or had extremely bad luck, I suspect it was burning oil for a while before previous owner dropped it.

Price it all up and do the maths, think with your wallet and not your heart.

Be very careful with engine flushes on old vehicles that you don't know the history of, it can cause issues.

Personally mine gets a seafoam oil treatment before every 2nd oil change (6k is my interval, once a year I know it's history and it's very well looked after), I've never had issues, but just be careful and cautious next time. Years ago I have seen failures because of engine flushes.

Good luck.
