If you do a search in here, the newer part isn't the thicker one, it's still the thinner looking one. Theres pics of the newer part people have had in here in the last few months and it still looks like the thinner one.

The thickness of the plastic flange on the right hand side of the joint is a lot less than the right.
It looks a lot thinner than the Nissan genuine part which has has roughly equal thicknesses to both flanges.
This thinner flange could be a weak point due to it being more susceptible to flexing.
The glue (in yellow) also does not appear to have oozed out of this joint to the bottom section (not inspiring confidence) as the Nissan OEM part has along it's length.
It's hard to say though without closer inspection if oozed glue would need to ideally reach the bottom part of the Amazon flanges.

Having said that the weak point on all these designs, if it's mainly blowing apart failures, appears to be the glued joint itself.
Who knows what glue has been used on the various versions, possibly differing versions have used revised glue chemistry.
This glue ages, loses it's nature, and is under constant heating/cooling and pressure cycles, it's up against it.
Safest bet i feel is preventative maintenance - change every few years.

Another option to prevent catastrophic failure is to look into fitting additional external support of the joint. Possibly some self tapping screws into the beefier parts of the flanges.
Needs careful thought though as this is ultimately weakening the flanges.
If it works it will hopefully limit the extent of water loss giving you time to shut down safely if steam comes forth.
Better still would be external clips, anyone fancy a design challenge :?:
This needs a class action lawsuit, not some crowdfunded solution.

For starters, all of you on this forum who experienced this problem need to team up and contact DVSA & Nissan TOGETHER.

The rest of us (who have not experienced this problem YET) should also contact DVSA or similar agency in our respective countries. Together we have a chance of getting the ball into Nissan's court. This needs a recall.

Except Nissan couldn't give a toss.

Only a death will get them to budge.

That is because companies do not fear consumers. They fear bad press cause that will impact profit margins.
We just need to generate bad press and trust me, they WILL budge.

edit: it is also happening on j12

It's very likely not glue, but a thermoplastic welded/fused joint. Whatever process they use, it's very unlikely glue. The failure appears to be thermal stress causing the expansion and contraction of a poor joint over time, causing it to break apart.

I had proposed a crowd funded independent investigation by a professional materials analysis house. This could then be used within any legal action as evidence, whether class or personal legal action.
I agree with the other poster here though, bad press is what makes them budge.

We need to compile the numbers of failure noted on this forum and somehow get people to fill in a central register of failures.

I've made a list with all the users who have posted about this problem here. As you can see this is an epidemic! All of these users should at least contact DVSA and Nissan together. If nothing else, next person who has this problem can send this post to Nissan and ask them to explain this,

I'd suggest that someone with some legal knowledge and good word skills (or a friend who has) drafts a template e-mail/letter.
I'm sure plenty would join in but be unsure of how to word something “official"

Random idea but we could all print off a simple template and if you see any QQ's fitting this age on the street you could pop it under the wiper :)

After a long running (almost) argument with the Nissan main dealer who supplied our latest used Qashqai (2019 1.3). I have now found out that ours was replaced before we bought it. The investigation notes on the job sheet was roadside breakdown, no heaters and smell of smoke in the cabin. Diagnosed thermostat and replaced - but there were specific notes that the customer wanted to retain the part. So, please add me to the list and if anyone on here sold/part exchanged their 2019 to Nissan Preston, please get in touch.
