Qashqai Model: Mk.2 Qashqai - J11 (2013–2017)

 Hello all.

My wife is wanting to move from her 208 1.2vti to a Qashqai DCI probably a 2015 model. Hopefully we will find an ideal model soon but a quick question while I'm here...

Does the 1.5 have any easy way for inspecting the timing belt condition?

Many thanks, Kenny.

You can see the belt by looking down the driver side of engine. If car is 5yrs old then the belt will need replaceing (if it hasn't been allready)

Can anyone help me please?
Accidentally the windscreen got a little bit crack and all of a sudden the remote central lock stopped working, steering wheel is locked, when I try to start with a key, the key is not moving at all. Getting option like a red car and a key inside the dashboard.
Its a 2012 nissan qashqai 1.6 diesel. It is a keyless model.

I don't want to directly contradict the other person that commented about checking a cambelt, on a j10 k9k 1.5dci(I know you specifically asked about a later model) the timing belt is protected by covers, the only belt that you can inspect fully with removing upper and lower covers is the auxiliary belt(alternator belt), any cambelt I have ever worked on or looked at has been protected by covers, primarily because stones etc do get picked up on occasion and could possibly cause catastrophic failure as well as many other reasons.

I could be wrong and please bear that in mind, I've never looked at a j11 but I know the 1.5dci is basically the same engine with some differences and additions in some areas.

Also please understand that I'm trying to give good advice and not get into flaming anyone(I can and do make mistakes, I'm human).

Good luck

Thank you Brommas and no problem. To be honest I thought timing belts had to fully covered anyway as a manufacturing standard for production vehicles perhaps after a certain year?

Anyway so far a filter change today got a good deal on this:

So far seems to be a good fit and sounds good just a little more turbo sound.

Excellent,

To answer your question about timing belts always being covered after a certain time, as far as I know they've really in recent (last 30 years) always been covered (I can't think of a single vehicle that I've worked on where the timing belt wasn't covered), if you're doing low mileage and short journeys, those are the most testing circumstances for such belts, make sure to do it on time (if not a little sooner), I have personally used Gates complete kits for years and never ever had an issue with a single kit(buy the full kit with water pump).

Regular oil and filter changes and all the usual wear and tear items, then you're good to go.

Personally I've used Wix filters for years and find them to be of very good quality and a reasonable price, my oil and oil filter is done every 6k(some will say that's over the top, each to their own, that works for me) I always look at oil as being the lifeblood of the engine, I will come out and say right now that I don't agree with the huge oil change intervals that are present now a days and I do understand the difference between mineral and synthetic blends. If other people want to do that , that is their choice and I have no issue with it, you pays your money and makes your choice lol. I hope you have a hassle free and happy ownership of your qq, I have so far with mine , it's one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned.

Yeah that sounds right to me usually always covered up. I have seen exposed top sections before on modified engines (C20-LET, 4AGE, D16, B16, 1JZ-GTE etc.)

I think the timing belt will be done no later than next year, for my other current car (corolla t-sport) gets an oil and filter change every year regardless and it's proven effective, 7 years and no engine issues whatsoever. Qashqai will be getting an oil and filter change in a couple of weeks.

Gates sure okay yeah I can look out for them and yes will do the water pump also. Many thanks Brommas for the useful information and well with the oil viscosity and types I've always used fully synthetic 5W40 for my Toyota and my wife's Peugeot 208.
