That new Nissan Rogue 1.5-3 cyl 201 BHP engine would, IMHO, be the better choice, also for the Qashqai, probably even instead of the e-power !? ...

Forgive me for not being absolutely up to date but isn’t it the self same engine with a different power output ?

MikeGC, indeed, but without the EV electric component !
That is why the MPG is not as great as the e-power versions, but my guess is that performance (201 BHP) may be stellar (as mentioned in the preview) !

I really have no issue with the performance of the current 1.3..it's astonishing really given its compact capacity

Agreed hootintootin.
Does not mean it couldn't be better still.
If Nissan engineered that new 3 cyl 1.5 engine it means they had to.
The US market especially does not accept lame SUVs like we have to endure in Europa to keep things affordable. As we know Australia, the US and most other countries don't want to drive the car market to 2BHP gocart like vehicles.
IMHO 200+ BHP engines is exactly what all SUVs should have.

No point it having more power it wouldn't be used. Would just burn more fuel and cost a bloody fortune to tax.

The US has always had gas guzzlers cos of the cheap fuel they pump out of the ground.

Europe is a highly/over regulated market cos of the EU penalising manufacturers based on their cars CO2 emissions.

Should look at some of the older popular cars, Ford Anglia 997cc and 1200cc, Ford Escort 1300 and 1600cc, early Mk1 Cortina's 1200cc, many of the Wolseley and Riley engines were only 1500cc. To me current engine sizes being made are only going back to what was accepted back in the 60's, but with modern technology have higher power outputs.
Past cars Mercedes B Class, S Class, E Class Estate, E Class Coupe, G Wagen, 260E interspersed with Peugeot 406 and Audi Coupe.

Considering that engine is only 200cc & 40bhp more than our 1.3cc 158bhp engine, the fuel economy is shockingly bad.
"31 mpg combined", that equates to 26mpg in the uk because of the imperial measurements... or has that all changed now?
