Hi all,

I installed front brake pads and discs around 4 weeks ago.

Since then I have had squeeling upon braking and a burning smell when i get out of the car after commuting 15 miles.

Today I took out the brake pads to inspect them and found that they were worn at the top and bottom edge of each pad. (see photo)

I haven't used backing plates/shims with the pads.

Could anyone advise what might be the problem?

Shims should be on if they were on the old pads. Did you use copper grease on the back of the pads to that will stop the sounds your getting. Were the edges not like that when you fitted them.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply.

I've just looked back at my order for the bosch brake pads on carparts4less and they do indeed have chamfers on them! That's a relief.

I will put shims back on to see if that stops the squeeling, yes i did use copper grease.

Thanks again.
