I just wanted to tell others of our recent experience with the transmission fluid radiator on our 2012 J10 Auto.

We started seeing a small leak a few weeks ago onto our brand new, as yet unsealed driveway. Got our local independent guy to have a look. At first it was thought to be waste oil from the plastic pan dripping off, as there was a bolt with a seized thread, causing the pan to dip towards the back. Given the recent heat, this would explain a slow drip.

When it went in to remedy the bolt, the drain pipe for the transmission radiator was found to be extremely corroded and fell off when inspected. It could've gone at any time while we were driving. The drain pipe seems to be made from a strange metal which was badly corroded.

After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with Nissan parts and some interesting revelations on the phone about why they keep quite a few of these in stock, it came time to replace the radiator. Pulling the transmission dipstick out, all we saw was a rusted length of metal about 25mm long.

Rang Nissan. "Is this some sort of hybrid dipstick?"
"No. It should be longer than that"
"Do you have any in stock?
"Yes. We've got a load of them coming in tomorrow"
"Why do you have a load of them coming in? Is this a common problem?"
"Errr................Yes"

So now we have to wait for a new dipstick, fish the end of the old one out somehow and continue with the repair once all the parts are here.

Still attacking driveway with Traffic Film Remover, Gunk, Wire brush, sandpaper, jet wash, C4 and dynamite. Stain is slowly fading.

Sodding cars!
