This came to mind when reading another thread about safety.

I feel I should know more about this question but prepared to expose my ignorance.

Question - does the J12 have an electric motor ?

My own belief is that it does not have an electric motor, hence the "mild hybrid" description. I’m also not clear on what qualifies the J12 as a hybrid (other than a large extra battery).

Nissan describe there power delivery as below - the QQ J12 has MHEV in the range. Not sure really, as their website is a bit messy and don't work in places. I think they want us to report to a dealer...

Mild hybrid POWER (MHEV). (A mixed drive rather than one or the other running)
A petrol engine is supported by a battery during acceleration and cruising

e-POWER
A combination of petrol engine which charges the battery and an electric motor that turns wheels

100% Electric
Entirely powered by an electric motor using a battery

Thanks Calnorth - glad it’s not just me !
My partner has a Leaf but I was out with a mate who has a plug in hybrid Mercedes GLC yesterday and the subject of mild hybrid / self charge hybrid (his wife’s Toyota) / plug in hybrid (his Merc).
I was pretty certain that the J12 doesn’t have an electric motor and is somewhat of a "cheat" for car tax, etc. purposes but not quite as ridiculous as the e-power.

There's a Toyota HEV across the road from me. 1.8ltr engine and no ability to external charge. Think the Drive Battery is good for less than 20miles. Stupid thing I thought.

Anyway we are to open/extend coal power plants now. So the whole thing begins to turn on its head? Letter from Kwarteng:

Not a dedicated electric motor. It's the electric starter motor which, supplied by the extra battery, helps the petrol engine sometimes.
