Gear knob creaking

My old j11a creaked slightly but was replaced due to the silver trim coming away and being dangerously sharp. Current j11b seems worse, especially annoying driving around town!
Found an old thread that mentioned replacing the gear knob but think that was a j11a. Has anyone else suffered this on a j11b and solved it (or do I try and twist the dealers arm to have it changed) ?
