Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Post by aristosv »

I used to have the J11 Qashqai (2015), sold it and ordered the J12 Qashqai (2022). TEKNA PREMIUM 1.3L DIG-T 158bhp Mild Hybrid AUTO 2WD. It will take a few more months to receive it and I've already started looking into things to accessorise it with.

Notably a piece of useful technology missing from the J12 is a dash cam. Found one here but it's for the J11. Right now in my other car I'm using a Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 which is an amazing little dash cam, and I'm planning on transferring it in the new Qashqai when I have it.

I was looking for a way to install the dash cam without having to mess with the dash/pillar/door seal trims and I found Dongar Technologies website which sells a USB adapter that can be installed on the rear-view mirror and provide a USB port that can power my Garmin Dash Cam. There's three types of adapters, build according to the model/year of the car. No specific information on which one might be compatible with the J12 Qashqai though.

Can any J12 Qashqai owner, check their rear view mirror, so we can find out which adapter is compatible with the J12 Qashqai?

Thanks

Welcome to your second post in nearly six years! Your previous car must have been trouble free!

I've never seen that fitting before - here or anywhere else.

I didn't know there was even a socket on the rear view mirror!

On my Qashqai I fed the wiring across the front of the roof and down the pillar without a problem - as have many other people.

I've found this picture of a J11 mirror:

... and this one of a J11B mirror:

The only picture of a J12 mirror I can find suggests there's no socket? Or is it hiding under the bracket? It's said to be 963217990A

Here's one coming up with that part number off an unspecified 2021 car:

We'll have to wait for a J12 owner to investigate and report back.

... and here's one which plugs in there - though whether it would be 100% compatible is anyone's guess - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003311248649.html

I didn’t know that USB was there either, difficult to believe Nissan would make installing a dashcam that straightforward !! ;)

Technically USB isn't there but there's a socket with a live feed into which an adaptor can be plugged - as I understand it.

We don't know yet whether it's permanent live or a switched live.

I was very happy with the J11. That's why after 7 years of ownership, I just wanted to upgrade to the J12.

That's correct.

I think it's switched, because the mirror turns off when the car is off. At least in the J11 Qashqai.

@gloucester
From the pictures you posted, it seems that J11 is using the 7-pin plug.

Let's hope someone goes through the trouble.

I checked my J12 this morning and it is using the same kind of 7 pin connector that is in J11B mirror photo.

Thanks for posting this, I picked mine up a week ago and was having a look at hardwiring the dash cam in yesterday. I had it hardwired in the previous Qashqai (J11b) so thought it should be a similar process but couldn't find how to easily remove the glove box or see a convenient earth near the fuse box through the small opening so left it to try to find more information rather than start pulling things about. Just been out to look at the mirror and indeed it does look exactly like the 7 pin one (I'll try to attach photos below, apologies if it doesn't work). I have ordered one and will post back if it's successful. Incidentally I ordered from Amazon.com as it offered faster shipping at the same price or slightly less than direct from Dongar technologies.

The second photo shows the connector which looks like it could be used to attach the Nissan dashcam, though I don't know if this is compatible with the current J11 dashcam or is for a futrure product.

This is great information. It seems only pins 1 & 2 are used to power the mirror. I sent the images to Dongar to confirm compatibility. If it's all good, it will be a tidy setup for any small dashcam. Thanks again!
