I had my timing belt and oil pump changed 6 weeks ago and after 1000 miles the belt seems to have gone again.

After the change of timing belt and oil pump seems to have gone again after only 1000miles. Arguing with garage who pays for second repair. 1.2 n-tec qashqai. Anyone else had this problem

Firstly , thats not good news.
I would be contacting Citizens Advice to sort your rights out before arguments start - know your facts.

Now , is the garage an independent or a main Dealer?
Did the garage strictly follow the Nissan repair instructions , in particular the tension placed on the Timing belt?
Did the garage use genuine Nissan parts , or was this repair costed down for whatever reason?

Food for thought to get you started

Welcome to this forum (EDIT - the comments below were made prior to realising you have a 1.2 petrol engine which doesn't have a belt! These comments are for a 1.5 diesel!)

When you say "gone again" what's the full story here? Did the original one actually fail? If so what happened?

If not, please explain why you say "gone again"?

If not, had the belt been changed according to the required schedule? 5 years and/or 60/72/90k miles? (Check service book for exact distance qualifier.) Nissan dealers are actually very competitive for this job.

What is now the problem - is the engine damaged?

Do you have a full Nissan dealer service history? Assuming the belt was changed by a Nissan dealer this may result in a Nissan contribution if you have.

Otherwise as Buffy says.

Just a question regarding belt change did u mean timing chain as the 1.2 petrol qashqai has a chain not a belt

I didn't see the 1.2 reference - automatically assumed a 1.5 diesel...

I'm wondering whether it's a wind-up?
