Hi
I’ve just bought a 2017 1.6 diesel Qashqai which I’ve been using for the past week.
Yesterday evening I was driving along at approx 35mph when I had I red box come on the display above my current speed. The box had the word ‘speed’ in it, chimes went off & the vehicle started to slow down, not happened before.
I’d not set a speed limiter, I was not close to the car in front.
I’ve gone all through the manual, can’t find anything about this kind of warning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've had this too, maybe three or four times over the last year of ownership.
First time was slowing down approaching a mini roundabout, 30mph zone, maybe I was going around 5mph ish and turning right at the roundabout as the warning went off?
The most recent was travelling through a 20mph zone, I was travelling at the correct speed, no vehicles/pedestrians in front, warning went off??
I believe the first time it happened I checked both my handbook and the internet with no success in finding what it was. I posted it up on the Forum but unfortunately no one had any idea.
The car is in with the dealership soon for further Warranty work, if I remember I will mention it to them and see if they have any information about it.

That large-ish red symbol/alarm is usually related to the front radar detecting an obstacle at some distance...crash warning from the FEB system. That system had a software update in either 2018 or 19?. I get it at odd times and I think it occurs from 25mph or so up only. Or the FEB system simply incorrectly recognizes whats in front of it due to radar behaviour?

Thanks buddy, sounds like a good logical explanation.calnorth wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 8:54 am That large-ish red symbol/alarm is usually related to the front radar detecting an obstacle at some distance...crash warning from the FEB system. TBH it doesn't worry me as much as the emergency braking does, this happened once with an almost "brown trouser" moment!!!
I may ask Nissan for a possible software update, maybe the O.P could also ask for this too.

That software update was about the time Nissan US was in hot water for improper/unexpected/sudden braking. Whether radar detection of false targets or generation of such was addressed is something else. On software update no information is given to the car owner (like me). Very poor behavior on the part of the manufacturer I'd say. This subject is about Safety.

Thanks for the replies guys
Did go into my local Nissan dealership this morning, their response was “take a photo of the warning” then try to replicate it. I asked how was I supposed to take a photo as the warning came on whilst I was driving!!! Met with blank faces

Have a look in your car manual. Under the title "Warning/indicator lights and audible reminders " or similar. I have an electronic manual which is the US version and although the red symbol and audio warning is mentioned regarding FEB (Forward Emergency Braking) the actual symbol graphic is not shown.
The dealer should know of all symbols/audibles presented to the driver concerning the radar FEB system. Perhaps call their service dept.

I've just had exactly the same thing happen at 27 mph. Red warning and audible alarm, the car also slowed for a couple of seconds. Traffic was near but not that close. I've had the emergency braking alert go off before - always at the same point on the road where there is bad vehicle parking on a bend.
