Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Post by Sandgrounder »

“The e-Power version will be sold alongside the existing Qashqai engine: a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol, which features mild hybrid technology and is available with outputs of 138bhp and 156bhp.

Prices for the e-Power are yet to be revealed, but we'd expect it to cost from around £30,000, making it more expensive than the Honda HR-V hybrid and only a little cheaper than the fully electric MG ZS EV.“

The front grille has been modified, the Nissan badge and there are e-POWER badges on the rear and either side of the Qashqai.

Better a bit late ... than never Sandgrounder.
Don't see inside the car yet (what about a bigger infotainment screen of 10-12.3 inches like in the Ariya ???)

Personally I don't see many (private) customers getting this new e-power .... unless price is only a little more than the Mild Hybrid versions !?
Consumption of 1/19 is great ... but this is still about the same as a Diesel car.
As a Company car (lease) this may be very interesting though because of taxation (may be region/country dependent).
IMHO those extra batteries are the Achilles heel ... if you *ever* have to swap those (or have them repaired) then
everything that was gained financially because of better consumption is completely lost (and much more I am afraid).

What do people here think about the e-power ?

Not for me as only available in 2wd.

However good way to generate electricity for your electric car...with a petrol engine. Removes the range anxiety of battery only cars.

If I still had company cars then the lower CO2 of this would certainly help get it on the list of potential cars

As it is petrol engine generating the electricity, surely the emissions would be similar to a petrol driven car?

The only benefit I can see is the improved performance, am I missing something?

There is a perversity of course in using an engine to generate power which is then expended in a motor. Surely direct drive from the engine to the wheels is more efficient in not incurring dual conversion losses?

According to Nissan, the emissions are less, engine works at optimal RPM and consumption is great.
E-power is in fact an electric car for which the electrity is generated by an additional seperate unit... gasoline engine in this case.
To me, as I wrote above, the downside is not so much the gasoline, but the extra battery that will , in tme, deteriorate and must finally be replaced. It would not surprise me if that would cost something like 5000 pounds!?
Bye bye financial gain, becoming loss instead.
The big plus is of course performance and probably 0-60 mph in less than 10 seconds for sure!?

This statement is also pretty wide of the truth!

And the additional advantage is the minimal impact e-POWER will have on urban air quality.

!?!?! Minimal !?!?! Anything but !!!!!

The car has Combined emissions of 119g/km - that's a lot more for example than my current car which is 97g/km (admittedly smaller but then a lot of cars drive around with only the driver in them so who needs size much of the time).

I'd love to try one out, but it doesn't have the ability to come to a total one-pedal stop as a Tesla has for instance, which is disappointing.

Something I remember checking up before when we were discussing this is the actual battery size since Nissan are being VERY coy about its capacity and I seem to recall finding out it's so small that the Qashqai won't be able to run aero-emissions for any distance, important now with ULEZs.

I'll see if I can find it again.

The Nissan Note e-Power has a TINY 1.5kWh battery

https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish ... ive/217422

Bingo - I've found the Qashqai's - it's just 2kWh according to this article from over a year ago:

https://www.byri.net/2021/02/26/nissan- ... icroscope/

On the other side of the coin, it only provides a low capacity, 2 kWh: just enough to do 2 to 3 km before the generator starts working..

And from https://www.topgear.com/car-news/hybrid ... hqais-face - also over a year ago:

New to the powertrain lineup is Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid setup. It was first used in the Note – Japan’s best-selling car in recent years – but here gets a larger 1.5-litre petrol engine that charges a 2.0kWh lithium ion battery and powers a 187bhp electric motor. That motor always drives the front wheels, and the internal combustion engine simply acts as a generator. Four-wheel drive won’t be an option with e-POWER.

Great find Gloucester!
To me, if the e-power QQ drives like an EV with the performance and acceleration then it may be worth it playing more for it.
We may have to wait for the reviews or do a test drive with it ourselves!?
