I bought a 2020 1.3 Dig-t qashqai earlier this year and it has been using a crazy amount of oil. Around 1 litre for every 1000 miles if not slightly more. I have taken it to the Nissan dealer I bought it from on 3 separate occasions. The first time they did compression tests, nothing came back but they told me to drive 1000 miles & come back. The oil got really low so I had to return after 800 miles & they topped it up but they filled it way over the max mark They said they had reported it to Nissan UK & I brought it back in yesterday for more compression tests. When I went to pick it up they tried to tell me the oil hasn't gone down so I had to explain it had but it had been overfilled. They have told me to drive 1500 miles & then bring it back. I told them I will be lucky to get half that without needing a top up. It is so frustrating, why won't they just take it in for a proper investigation? I know this was a well documented problem with the 1.2 engine but has anyone came across this issue with newer models?

Welcome to this forum.
I don't recall this being an issue with this engine before.

I've done 26,000 miles in my July 2019 1.3 and this hasn’t happened to my engine.
I regularly check my oil and it barely changes between services - I can’t recall ever adding oil to the engine.

Thanks, I had been reading around before I bought it and it seemed like the oil issue from the previous engine was fixed. There is no blue smoke, no sign of leaks & their initial tests came back clear so I have no idea why but I am going through a litre every 4/5 weeks
Ask for the Nissan official spec of oil usage from customer services.
They will have a documented max allowance of oil consumption per 1000 miles .
If you are exceeding this , then there is a premature wear problem , or the piston rings could have become aligned allowing oil to pass and burn.
Also , what is the mileage of the car and is the correct grade and quality of oil being used ?

Make sure you don't let get lower than minimum mark cause it can damage other parts of the engine I suspected timing chain problem with the 1.2 engine was caused by low oil levels

The max is a litre every 1000 miles but this seems excessive. I am using more than that anyway, about a litre every 800 miles. The car only has 15000 miles on it, it had 9000 on it when I bought it. The correct grade of oil is being used & I have been using a reputable brand so I don't think that is the issue. Nissan really overfilled it the last time I brought it in, it was a couple of centimetres over the max mark. They just keep repeating the same tests but are dragging their heels when it comes to doing anything more meaningful.Buffy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 6:34 am Ask for the Nissan official spec of oil usage from customer services.

Thankfully I have kept a close eye on it but it is just ridiculous. This is my third Nissan (had 2 Jukes) but it will be my last if they don't fix it.david sunderland wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 2:33 pm Make sure you don't let get lower than minimum mark cause it can damage other parts of the engine I suspected timing chain problem with the 1.2 engine was caused by low oil levels
Overfilling an engine with oil is bad too !
