Hi I'm new to the forum, UK based and wondered if I can get some feedback or help regarding a car that we will be test driving on Monday.
We are considering purchasing a Nissan Qashqai Tekna 1.5 dci manula diesel as a second car. It's got 78785 miles on the clock. 1 owner from new but unfortunately no service history. The garage have said that because it as no service history they are willing to do the cam belt, water pump, auxiliary, belts, service and give it a fresh mot. The registration mark is ST14 VMO and through a quick search I have discovered it was registered in Dundee Scotland. So it may at some point belonged to one of the members on here.
I just need any advice what to look out for. I've also been told that because it's a 1.5 diesel they are gutless cars with no go in them. I would appreciate any help or advice about the nissan qashqai and any problems to look out for. Thank you for any input.

1. It’s your money but I would be hesitant to buy a car with no service history (although I note the good offer from the garage)

2. The 1.5 is not gutless and could easily get you into bother with Plod.
It's nippy, runs beautifully at 70 - 80, it’s comfortable and frugal.

Good Luck

Welcome to this forum.

The main thing I'd have mentioned would be the cambelt so since that's being done you sound like you're in a pretty good position.

Assuming it's got the panoramic roof check the interior blind is intact and working properly.

I'd like 4 identical tyres with ample tread too.

Check the SD card is in the navigation - you may find you need a more up-to-date one in any case but that's only around £25.

Otherwise simply check all the electrical items are working - there are a lot on that car (like mine apart from the engine).

I haven't driven one so can't comment on the performance.

Here's a rather pessimistic long-term car review : https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-revie ... st-review/ - make what you will of their parting comment:

When it first arrived I recall expressing concern that 109bhp and 192lb ft of torque might prove inadequate at shifting the 1400-odd kilogram tin with any alacrity, and those reservations have been confirmed on an almost daily basis. The 1.5-litre turbodiesel does, like any irritating offspring, become voluble when thrashed, and even then struggles to provide oomph sufficient to overtake on any straight shorter than that required by a departing B52. Work within the powertrain’s modest parameters however, and all remains comfortably numb.

... but we have owners on here who seem perfectly happy. It depends what you want out of the car - as a second car perhaps performance isn't all that high up compared to accommodation and versatility?

i`d go for it,
had my 1st qashqai 2 yrs ago last month 16 reg had 14,000 on the clock when i got it, now 50,000 (just last week), never had a problem i do oil change every 6 months, new set of tyres on it just over a year ago. will be getting it booked in for timing belt in new yr.
the car your looking at needs new rear pads and disc both sides. if they have`nt been replaced and 2 front tyres are worn too so have a look and see if they had been replaced from when it was mot in feb 21

I hadn't thought of checking past MoTs.

Interesting reading but note andy2019 you seem to have missed out the last MoT which suggests those items in February 2021 have been rectified since they'd be advisories again surely? Or not noticed...:

So only 1k miles last year (Covid induced presumably), 15k miles in 2019, 19k miles in 2018 and 23k miles in 2017 - so not much per year prior to that.

it`s always a bit hit`n`miss with the advisory as they don`t fail the car for mot. the rear pads and discs were an advisory all the way back in 2018 when car had mot. so it`s worth checking if they have been replaced when you go to look at car

Thank you all for your input I'll give it a go and have a good look around it. The garage have said they will get the car inside and dry it all off so we can have a good look around it in the dry

It surely won't be on its original battery however after seven years?

I have a 2017 NConnecta bought from new and no significant issues. Battery and 4 wheels (white worm from centres) changed by Nissan under warranty. Car now at 42k miles and still on original Continental tyres (18 inch wheels). The 1.5 DCi is far from gutless and mine produces over 55mpg all day long.

One thing you haven't mentioned is the price and like most things in life this should be a major deciding factor, particularly on a car with no service history. The 1.5 QQ is plentiful so you need to make sure one with no history is at a lower price point otherwise look elsewhere. My other slight concern is that the previous owner/s didn't correct faults on the car picked up as advisories so not a loved car in my opinion which might throw up other issues you haven't seen at the dealership.
