How on earth did he get high 40s to 50mpg? I'd be happy with that. Highest I got was 39.

Iqzy, I think it is the xtronic cvt gearbox that is helping to get such high mpg.
If you watch that video, he rarely has to rev above 1500rpm to get up to speed.
I skipped through a lot of it but the highest RPM I saw was 2000

Iqzy, as we know this guy in the video is a self-acclaimed "PRO ECO driver".
He adapted himself to the car and the CVT.
xaote reported here that he can get these results as well.
However, I ... can't because I have the 6MT manual, but more important I simply refuse to obey my car ... I always drive the way I want (in sport mode) and
this means I can't ever get more than 35-40 MPG.
Because a J12 QQ is in fact still an ICE and an SUV I personally believe consumption is more than OK !
e.g, selling the QQ to get, maybe, +5 MPG with a true hybrid may not be the most cost effective option.
I don't even think it could be any better than this ... my J12 is perfect ... also the consumption.
Maybe in time I will learn to use the ECO mode, but ... not today !

I think motor control unit had some kind of learning based how you start driving. I normally switch to ECO at the end of first kilometre due to road specific issues before. However I tried today this first km pretty in peace and again my assumption was confirmed. The car was behaving very well and got the record low consumption of 5.7L/100km.

PS: sometimes ECO is completely undrivable. Then I switch back to STANDARD....obviously computer mess up something with parameters.

I share the same thoughts with you. Car is completely fine and I am satisfied with purchase...especially considering mine is AWD.

I am getting better figures with my passat tdi, but that is another world.

I'm another fan of sport mode. This, and the types of roads I normally drive (tight, twisty country roads) don't add up to great mpg.
There are times where I have to do longer journeys where it is easy to great mpg

I will stay with my J11 diesel, 50mpg around town, 74+ on motorway at 60-65, best I've had is 88mpg.
I think that's great from a little 1.5 engine, can get close to 70mpg on long A roads as well.

Filled up the car a few days ago. Since then done about 120 miles. 100 main roads and motorways, 20 urban. Wasn’t in hurry, so mainly stuck to about 60 mph on motorway. Checked today averaged 45.9 miles since last fill up. I was in standard mode. Happy 😊 with that.
