J12 fuel economy

I thought it would be interesting to start a thread for monitoring the J12's fuel ecomony.
What the MPG is like in different driving conditions, i.e, motorway/highway, town/city or mixed.
'Spirited' driving or driving to deliberately increase MPG.
I'm also interested in the difference (if any) as the engine is 'run in'. Does it actually improve as the mileage/kilometres increases, after the first service or is this just a myth?
Also, how the economy differs in eco/normal/sport mode.
138bhp or 158bhp? Xtronic or manual gearbox?

I’ve found the MPG to average at 38 for me around town and 41 on the motorway. I’ve gone through loads of fuel so I aren’t sure if my driving style is differed to when I had the J11 in diesel. Either way, it’s costing a fortune. I’ve had it 2 weeks and done 450 miles to £100. Just put 40 in it today and only got 200 miles for it 😩

We’re you getting more mileage from your j11?

EJT19 - would be useful if you put full car details in your base signature for reference.

Around 40mpg sounds fine when comparing it to the published economy chart which even now it's differently formulated is usually still optimistic - and hopefully it'll loosen up somewhat in the first thousand miles or so:

This suggests around 33mpg around town?

Mine isn’t great although doing short trips mainly. It’s obv brand new too but noticeably worse than my 67 dig-t tekna plus 1.6 petrol.
Given this unit is same power, car is generally lighter (?) lighter bonnet etc. Also newer tech, it’s not great really. Also noticeably not as nippy as the 1.6 petrol, although as per my other topic it’s v sluggish off the line whereas the older one seemed much more perky.

I’m getting about 33-36 round town, had up to 45 on a 10 mile run. 5-10 mpg worse than my old car currently. But have only done 220 miles so far

The overall average on my J12 is currently 41 mpg. Consumption is similar to my previous 1.2 petrol Qashqai’s. I don’t expect the mpg to improve until the weather gets warmer next year. I am hopefully it will achieve 45-50 mpg in the summer, if not higher?

A lot of people are commenting that the new E10 petrol is worse for fuel economy so I might try Super Unleaded sometime which is E5 but quite a bit dearer?

The published economy tables are showing around 44mpg combined - so why are people thinking they'll get more than that?

It's a sizeable car with a petrol engine and a pretty mild hybrid implementation - you can't make miracles.

What I've found with my Ignis is a HUGE difference these last few months not having AC on all the time as I did for three years. I'm now getting 15-20% better consumption having it off now most of the time. I'd imagined AC would be around a 5-10% hit. Just look at the money I've wasted.

So I'd suggest NOT having AC on all the time - I had it on all the time with my Qashqai which averaged just 34mpg over 2.3 years ownership.

I wonder if the original mpg figures are taken with or without AC being on...

I'm still a believer that bigger engines don't have to work so hard which in turn give better fuel economy. So is moving to small petrol engines actually better for the environment or not?

But the results you are all giving across are not as bad as I expected tbh. It is a big lump of a car

The 2nd half of my test drive I was getting just over 40 as well.
The 1st half I was watching the quarter of a tank drain to just above the red
