We previously had the 1.6 petrol J10 and our newer 1.2 DIG -T feels slightly quicker and way better on fuel consumption (see my MPG posts)
One criticism I do have, and this is only a very minor one, first gear seems to me to be short geared, when pulling away from say a roundabout, second gear selection comes very quickly.
We have owned the QQ since March this year, I check the oil every week when I top up the screen wash and give the car it's weekly clean. Covered around 3000 miles since March and not a drop of oil used
I've heard all of the 'horror stories' and we still went ahead and purchased the 1.2, my Aunt down in England has had three 1.2 engine QQ's over the last 9 years and apart from the odd slight warranty issues that we all have, she has not had any oil or engine issues. Two of my neighbours also have the J11 QQ's and no issues.
I do admit, one of my neighbours has an ongoing issue with his free swimming pool in the boot, but I believe that this has been rectified under warranty.

Thats very re-assuring, and kind of sums up my thought that all cars have some common points of failure, but by looking at something 5-6 years old, hopefully those issues will have already happened and resolved, if at all.Squashy2 wrote: βThu Jul 08, 2021 9:15 amWe previously had the 1.6 petrol J10 and our newer 1.2 DIG -T feels slightly quicker and way better on fuel consumption (see my MPG posts)

There was a previous thread regarding the issues with oil loss/engine damage and this has a link to the VIN number of the possible effected range.
Before committing yourself to buy, if you can get the vehicles VIN number, compare it to the Nissan list. From what I've read, the vast majority of complaints came from the early J11 model but if I recall correctly Nissan may have issued a fix? But apologies if I'm wrong, I'm more than sure someone with a better knowledge of these issues will be along soon.
If I can locate the post regarding the numbers I'll repost it.

Appreciate that, thank you. So I think the J11 started from aorund 2013, I guess going for something around 2015 would be about right then? But I will see if you can find that list you refer to. Thank you.Squashy2 wrote: βThu Jul 08, 2021 10:14 am Mr_G

I believe the range of possibly affected VIN numbers was later extended to the *entire* 1.2 Petrol series. I've seen an extended guarantee (internal?) memo about this, and this probably also explains why the newer QQ's appeared with the new engine.
I have opted to not go for an 1.2 engine, as i buy second-hand, and only an internal engine check (with an endoscope) can probably tell you the real state of the engine. And if your engine will break down at some point, you're most probably out of warranty (which is 5 years with the new extended warranty for 1.2 engine issues, BUT only if the car was serviced ONLY by Nissan dealers) , which will require you to buy a totally new engine (for about β¬8k).
To much risks imho, so i went for the newer 1.3 engine, wich supposedly has a totally new design and most probably has avoided all possible likewise issues at the highest priority.
