The CVT automatic gearbox on my 2013 Qashqai with 60000 miles has just failed. Nisssan dealership want £6000 to replace.
Has anyone with similar problems tried to get Nissan to cover the cost or got any other suggestions

Welcome to this forum.

I've no direct experience but there are topics on here relating to CVT problems.

If you want Nissan to contribute you'll probably have to demonstrate a cast iron full Nissan dealer service history.

Depending on where you are and what the problem is you may like to contact one of these companies who may be able to suggest something - though I've no direct or indirect experience of them:

The above was Good advice about contacting an independent for assistance.
Prior to owning my current qashqai I had considered purchasing a 3 year old cvt version car that had only done 800 miles and was an ex-motorbility car. The internet and forums alerted me to gearbox problem and the potential issues with this particular version of cvt and i decided to stay away.
In America I believe mass law suits resulted in Nissan extending the warranty to 10 years on their cvt versions as there were so many cases.

Before deciding to say yes or no to the used cvt model, I watched numerous you tube videos that strip these boxes down and the main common culprits are fragmented bearings which can be replaced and modified. I don't think the parts cost is the main issue but the labor charges, unless more damage has resulted of course.
I phoned at least 2 auto specialists and they confirmed the common faults and highly recommended regular auto gearbox oil changes and filter using the genuine Nissan oil. They also said the moment you hear any unusual transmission noise get it sorted before the bearing shatters and spreads it's bits everywhere.

If you phone them they are very informative, I seem to recall Stephens engineering were one company I phoned and were helpful.
I believe there was a premier inn and train station in their village should you have to stay overnight or travel home depending on where you live of course.
Purchasing a second hand unmodified version may put you in the same boat later on.
Once you have some knowledge you can make a judgment call and his diagnostic discussion on the phone may result in a better understanding of cost.
Best of luck

My wife purchased a Nissan Note in March 2019 with a CVT gearbox, within 6 months of her driving it, with only 18000 miles on the clock, the gearbox failed, Nissan agreed to have the gearbox replaced with no cost other than the removal and replacement labour cost which amounted to £790. If I saw an advert for any car with a CVT transmission, I would run a mile! Especially if it’s a Nissan.

I have just heard this morning that Nissan have rejected my claim for a goodwill payment . I paid £10300 for the car which is a 2013 Qashqai in 2019 , the mileage was 20000. It had a full nissan service history and was due for service on 25th March 2020. Unfortunately we went into lockdown on 23rd March and as I am 75 years old I did not venture out . I did phone round to get the service done but all of the local garages were closed. The juddering problem became apparent and at that time the mileage was and still is 27000 . The Nissan dealership has said that the car needs a new gearbox at a cost of over £5000.00. At my age I cannot find this sort of money at the moment so the car is sitting outside the house . I am at the end of my tether as I now have a car that is worth nothing . I cannot believe that Niss

Roy, this Problem of CVT Gearbox Problem is unfortunately a well known problem especially in the US. This problem has been hanging around for years with this Nissan ”JAFCO” CVT Gearbox. The question always arises regarding The Gearbox Service History, Oil / Filter Change & the Stamps in the Service Book History. This is no easy task as the Cost to Replace & Install a CVT is expensive and presumably Nissan are edgy to do this because there could be a lot of interested parties just waiting in the background.
Just as an example Nissan in the end upped their Guarantee to 10 years in the US, if of interest I have included a couple of “Legal” comments which might give you feedback or ideas - All the Best I hope you get it Sorted Dave 🤨

Now I am one who at present has the QQ with the DCT Box which is a superb piece of equipment and now the New QQ is being built with a supposedly NEW CVT Gearbox. In the US there a comments of improvements, but it is a big decision to make. 😠 If of interest there are more posts under “Search”.

Nissan knew of the JATCO CVT problems many years back, and as a company they own, should
have had this sorted ages ago!

So how come the Americans were able to twist Nissan's arm and get an extended warranty. Did a similar case occur in the UK or was it never challenged.
It certainly does not seem fair that owners over here are expected to cough up some large sums of money to correct an inherent fault, when it has been identified elsewhere. Maybe UK owners should get together and challenge this unfairness unless they already have of course.

Reading the links above it seems owners who pushed back against Nissan in the USA and used the courts were successful in applying enough pressure to make a change happen. Unless i'm lagging behind and a similar case has occurred here, why don't affected owners get together and do the same ? I mean six thousand pounds is a lot of hard earned cash to fork out on a known issue,
