The criticism seems to be based on testing a car which won’t be available in the U.K..

Does not look too bad to me. The battery parts do not seem to be the best in its class though and given this is of great importance in any EV makes me think...
However the Ariya looks wonderfull (to me anyway) , both inside of the car and externally.
The only car of which I like the looks even more is (still) the new QQ... e-power version.
The QQ e-power would be my choice over the Ariya if I had to replace my mild hybrid J12 QQ today!
IMHO the new e-power is the best of both worlds and I hope Nissan has hit a home run... Twice ... with both of these new cars.

My problem with the e-power is that it seems to be a petrol car which constantly charges a battery that fuels an electric motor.
I await detailed test drives and some reliability data before making a decision but at the moment I can’t imagine it will be on my shopping list.

Indeed MikeGC, it still is a petrol car, with some of the advantages of a... Diesel. Less fuel, more power.
But as long as Diesels get banned, and EVs have the disadvantages of those batteries without... backup these e-power QQs seem to be kind of a solution for a problem our European Union ECO nuts have created.
IMHO diesel was better than all this craziness until diesel fuel prices and extra taxes and legislation were raised and/or introduced.
Modern diesel cars are in fact the solution, not the problem they so willingly have imposed.
Most people I know are still driving Diesels (especially company cars) and will only change to EVs when there is no other option.
Going on vacation from Norhern Europe to the South of France, Spain or Italy without having to worry about range or distance is still a big issue with any EV. That is were the e-power would be better, but still not as good as a Diesel that easily offers around 600 miles / 1100 km of range without refueling.

Reports on the Ora Cat Facebook pages from Fully Charged Live that Nissan have increased the priced of all Ariyas by £1000

The Ora Cat is reported to have gone up from £25k to a "fully loaded" version at £32k

EDIT - confirmed at https://www.speakev.com/threads/fully-c ... mo.169017/:

It's worth pointing out that as of Tuesday 3rd May, there's a £1000 price hike across the board on all Nissan Ariya (due to increasing production costs), so if you want to beat the increase, contact us this weekend!

Ford has increased prices even more -

The Mustang Mach E has gone up substantially - originally at £40,270 now £47,530

Ford has increased the price of the new E-Transit electric van by £5,005, before the first UK vehicles have been delivered. The Fiat E-Ducato, Mercedes eSprinter and Renault Master E-TECH rival now costs from £47,700 (excluding VAT) – up from £42,695 when prices were first revealed in 2021.

So to get the Ariya in an equivalent spec to my QQ J12 Tekna awd xtronic I'd have to spend an extra £20K. Blimey that buys an awful lot of petrol. These electric things just don't stack up.

Not sure where you're getting your figures from.

There are three basic versions of the Ariya (and these prices are before the imminent price increase):

Advance = £41,845 (£43,140 with sunroof)
Evolve = £51,090 - for more range than the Advance
e-4orce = £53,790 - for more performance than the Evolve

A Tekna+ Qashqai - the only version with 4WD costs £40,005 after the recent price increase.

So assuming 4WD is required you need an e-4orce but that's only £13,785 more expensive (soon to be £14,785 more). But that brings with it much increased performance so you're not really comparing like with like here.

Ariya e-4orce = 5.7 seconds acceleration 0 - 62 mph
Qashqai Tekna+ 4WD = 9.9 seconds acceleration 0 - 62 mph

So taking 4WD out of the equation you could compare a Qashqai Tekna+ 4WD at £40,005 with an Ariya Advance at £41,845 (soon to be £42,845) which is still a lot better in performance terms at 7.5 seconds acceleration 0 - 62 mph. The Advance model for instance gets ProPILOT, electric seats etc. so it's not a "basic" specification - albeit it lacks Bose and the panoramic roof (unless you pay extra for the latter).

Moving up to the Evolve spec brings with it equipment you can't even get on a Tekna+ such as self-parking (UK version), ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, electric steering wheel adjustment etc

I'd be quite happy with the Advance version and if the iD Buzz, which I've registered interest for at the local VW dealer, as rumoured at Fully Charged isn't going to be delivered until the end of 2023 as recent rumours suggest, you never know what I might buy...
