Hi all, newbie here.

I have a 63 plate 1.4 diseal qashqai and it failed it's MOT on the engine management light NOT coming on when the ignition is initially turned on.

The garage told me it was a module and to take it to an electronics specialist. I went there and they said they tested the lights, wires and connectors and took the dash off. They can't fix it, and it needs to go to Nissan, who cant see me until the 1st Sept.
So far this has cost me £380 and I'm no further forward.

I've seen there are videos on YouTube to turn the engine management warning light off, but nothing to turn the light back on!

Any ideas or glimmer of hope would be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks.

i guess it was ok last year then if it passed the mot. i didn`t think they check them things on mot, normally if you got an error light on the dash when it`s mot then it`s a fail.
the garage you took to get it looked at did they say to you if they got the light to work when testing the lights. :?:
think you`ll find you have a 1.5 diesel and not a 1.4 ;)

I know I didn't think they checked that either to be honest. There was a fault with the airbag light on (happened to be unplugged under the seat) and I think that's what triggered them to look for the engine management light. But on the mot failure it states "engine mil inoperative".
It definitely worked 6 months ago as the engine mil came on as the 1st fuel injector stopped working so that was seen to then.
There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to turn it off - but not on hahah.

The original garage said they couldn't do it, it needs a specialist as no diagnostic code coming up on the scanner.

Haha thanks I meant 1.5  :P

The MIL indicator (Check Engine) is switched by the ECU. So its a problem there or in the related wiring or the light itself.

Prior to Start engine all indicator warning lights are displayed..as sort of default test.

Thankyou. The garage took the dash off and checked the wires and lights and said it still did not work.
Is an ECU (once the correct one is found) an easy repair / replacement?

Its the prime controller (electronic control) of the engine which will need specialist attention. Most likely a Nissan job

Thankyou. Got it booked with with them on the 1st. Was hoping it was something that could have been done without the added expense. Ah well I tried.
Thank you all
