I have a quashquai j11 diesel and been told at service that it requires a cam belt at 50000 is it critical or can I skip it for a few thousand miles ?

Life is all about risk management, if the cam belt breaks the cost to change it will seem small compared to the repair bill. Only you can make the call as to what you should do. Just had mine done at the recommended 5 yr point and 42k miles to be told the belt was in good condition, but that many they see definitely need changing by 5 yrs. Time to get that coin out and start flipping!

That is technically wrong.

The cambelt replacement period is either 5 years or variously 60k, 72k, 75k, or 90k miles. Different sources quote different mileages - but none are as low as 50k.

Of course you may be being told you need a new cambelt because the car's five years old. Let us know.

It is strongly recommended that it's done at the declared frequency.

The good news is that Nissan cambelt replacement prices are more reasonable than other makes. You can aim to pay just over £300 - £309 for example at https://www.westwaynissan.co.uk/servicing/cambelt
