Hi All,

this has just happened to my Qashqai this weekend and has been in with a Nissan Dealer today to diagnose the issue, they have contacted me to say that the electronic steering lock is broken and needs to be replaced, £250 all in including the initial diagnostics. Should be ready by Wednesday this week so can report back as to whether or not the issue is resolved.

cheers

How did this go for you ?

This has happened to mine this week. Monday I broke down, the steering wheel and push button on the screen. Couldn't get it going at all so the AA came out. Took him a good 10-15 minutes of bashing about and disconnecting the battery terminal to get the car going. I took it to Nissan who had it and said the Steering Lock Module needed to be replaced. £99 diagnostic fee and £241 later I got the car back yesterday.

Out in it today the same thing happened 3 times. 1st 2 times the car started itself after about 20 seconds, the 3rd time it was like Monday all over again. Someone came out and got a tool to unlock the battery terminal, waited 30 seconds, reconnected it and the car started again.

I rang Nissan not happy and wanting them to get it seen to again after I had spent almost £350 to see the problem rear it's head after 1 day. So they are having it back in on Tuesday again.

Welcome to this forum.

My experience of Nissan dealers was not the best either.

Had the exact same thing happen. Tried charging battery, wiggling the wheel while pressing a combination of pedals and the start stop button but nothing, always the same undocumented screen.

Called the AA, they asked me to do some of that on the phone nothing worked. Ended up getting them to come and the guy tried disconnecting and boosting the battery, saw with the laptop that it was throwing an error code and cleared it but it didn’t help. Finally he said they have a way to reset keys (not as in locksmith but some kind of clearing). Did that and it finally started. At least I’m glad I didn’t have to take it to a garage and props to the guy for fixing it.

Car had been sitting there for a few weeks but still should have had enough battery. Only thing I can think of is something related to that.
