Started the car this morning all as usual, but after about 2 minutes there was a loud low pitch howling noise. Had a listen under the bonnet and the noise appears to be coming from the left hand side of the engine bay. When it started, it was like a motor starting up, gradual increase in volume. I have no faults either on the dash or on my code reader. The exhaust is clear, engine performs as normal so I am hoping it is not the turbo as the car has only done 51k miles but has a full dealer history. Forgot to say the noise is engine speed related.

Any suggestion from the collective

I have now tried everything I can think of to solve my problem, however I am now leaning on the side of turbo failure, but I have no dash warnings, no smoke out of the exhaust but a distinct lack of power. The car is booked in to Nissan on Tuesday, just hope it's not the turbo, a bit expensive repair.

So, car in for diagnostics today and the turbo has gone at 51000 miles not a good advert for Nissan turbos or whoever supplies them. No help form the dealer on price, so phoned Nissan UK and they are looking into it. Dealer quote for replacing turbo £2700 including something like 6 hours labour. Unless Nissan help, I will not be using them to replace my turbo.

Hi, I hope it's not your turbo, but it sounds like it.
Just on sat my brothers jag xf blew a turbo, we took it off and took it to a turbo specialist near here. Rebuilt it for £450 works champion. Have a look in your area, there will probably be a local specialist . if it is the turbo I wouldn't be paying dealer prices.

Contacted a specialist near me, who I also know, and they have quoted just over £1000 so booked in but not until 18th. By the way, Nissan wanted £1400 plus VAT just to buy a replacement turbo, what a rip off.
