Hello,

My 1.2 beast is 7 years old but only 40k on the clock, and during the last service the dealer recommended changing coolant (£170) and spark plugs (£120).
I refused but I may do it at the next service.

Is this something that you do when doing a service?

Cheers

hi
spark plugs you can change yourself and save some cash . as for the coolant, that should be changed but the age of the car the timing belt must be due to be replaced if you not had it done allready as they will drain all the coolant and replace it when fitting new belt and water pump.. if you don`t want the belt replaced as would get a quote from a few places as the £170 is way over priced

Just for clarification the 1.2 engine is a timing chain not a belt so no need to worry about that

it appears that service manual says that coolant and sparks should be changed at 96months, so probably next year

£120 to change four sparkplugs, that's obscene as is £170 for coolant change, was a ten to fifteen minute job on my old Almera. My first Nissan was a Datsun 100AF2 Cherry, non were ever serviced at a dealership, always did it myself. My last 04 Almera was 16 years old when I let it go with 98k on it, never had a coolant change and only three sets of plugs in all that time and ran fine.
My Qashqai is still under warranty so has to be dealership serviced for now. Find a good indi garage, there are a few about or do it yourself

£120 to change four sparkplugs, that's obscene ...

Assuming that's including the cost of the spark plugs it might be reasonable.

What plug does this Qashqai take? - there are four alternatives coming up at Nissan:

NGK plug for 1.2 Qashqai,15 plate ILKAR7F7G £14.50 each from Opie, so just under £60, and then another £60 for 15 min work.
Nissan wanted £269 for a minor service , oil and filter change with a cabin filter 😶, If people think that's a good price then I'm lost for words, I got two years servicing when I bought my car.
Although to be fair they have brought out a new plan that includes not, service and a years warranty, but I'm sure they will claw the money back when it's time for a coolant change or timing belt change to keep the waranty.

£269 is the price for a diesel - the petrol service should be £229

It's was £149 when I bought mine in 2016.

just over £44 for a full set of plugs here.

i would be tempted to just take one of your spark plugs out the car and see what the condition of it is like .

I'm wary of trusting eBay for critical parts.
