Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Post by johngalt »

I did just notice that I do seem to have a way to downshift in drive, I never saw the practically microscopic + and - next to D on my gear selector. I'll try it tomorrow, but it looks like if I bump it to the left while in drive, I can move the gears up and down. Seems like the easiest fix here, thanks for the help from all involved.

It sounds to me that you have what we in the U.K. call a J11B automatic rather than the latest model which we call a J12 - from your description of the gear lever arrangement.
You have a Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) automatic gearbox which has 7 forward gears. The J12 has a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which does not have distinct gear ratios.
Changing gears by pushing the gear lever to one side with the Nissan DCT and toggling back and forward is exactly correct.

Getting this correct would be of great interest to me. Is there a way I can tell for sure? I know with certainty that this is a 2021, it's 4WD, uses unleaded gasoline / petrol, and is an automatic.

I came to my conclusion based on the info at www.car.info. The break up the generations into J10, J10 Facelift, J11, J11 Facelift, and J12.

The 2021 generation J11 Facelift 1.7 dCi 4WD is diesel only, mine is unleaded gasoline / petrol.
The generation J11 Facelift 1.6 dCi 4WD Manual, 6-speed was only produced up till 2019 and is also diesel and a manual.
This only left the generation J12 1.3 DIG-T 4WD XTRONIC-CVT, which was produced in 2021, is automatic, is 4WD, and is unleaded gasoline / petrol.

After comparing it to other pictures pictures, it certainly does look similar to the J11 facelift - though not exact. So maybe their information is wrong? I attached a pic of my vehicle.

In the U.K. we call that car a J11B or J11 facelift

Pictures below are my J12 and then my J11B - I don’t seem to have photos from the front

Not surprisingly I don't have a Panamanian catalogue in my brochure collection! :)

And now we know it's a J11B not a J12 so the info I posted earlier is not relevant in any case.

For the J11B - at least in the 20170601 and 20191101 catalogues I have - the 4WD model was only available with a diesel engine.

Although people have noted the J11B came with a DCT auto gearbox that was only in the later cars, and the 4WD model retained the CVT auto one throughtout.

The mode of operation is fully covered in the 2019 handbook I have:

Do you not have the correct handbook?

Think you should have bought a proper off roader with lockable diffs etc that are designed for your terrain
