My 58 plate J10 has failed its MOT and I have spent £800 getting it ready for its retest and the very last thing that needs to be done is the driver side brake lamp.
I had asked the garage who was doing the rest of the work to change the bulb, he said he's changed it but its still not working. He said there was voltage to the lamp holder but it was lower than the voltage to the tail lamp holders 11.4v vs 14v.
I am looking online though and am confused as a lot of places are saying that the brake lamps are led's on the J10? Or is that later J10's and the pre face lift still uses old style lamps?
My thought process is its not the switch as the passenger side is working, ditto for the fuse as there is supposedly power at the lamp holder.
Any ideas what could cause this. All the other tail lights and indicators are working. It is just the driver side brake light.
One brake light doesn't work

I'd try cleaning all the contacts too, I had one side dimmer than the other on my 2009 and it was due to dirty contacts.

Run a temporary earth cable from the bulb holder ( on the earth side of course ) to the vehicle body.
This will show if there is a current issue as a bad earth will dim the lamp in the holder
