Hi All,
Well its all been good since my radar update, no problems with the car slamming on the brakes, great.....then 2 weeks ago the adblue warning came on saying 1500 miles, even though the tank was full to brimming. I left it for a week and came across posts saying you can overfill them and cause an airlock or the sensor cant read the level, there's no real guide on how much to put in so I've kept it brimmed for the past year with no problems until recently.
About 4 days ago I booked it into Nissan and thought maybe its got an airlock ( I have a steep driveway and the problem started when I parked my car on it as I don't usually use it) so I got some tubes and drained it, it was full so 16 liters and a bit, I removed a full 10 ltr can and 1 more liter in another then used it for the past few days and the light stayed on and tonight I had this odd feeling and thought I didn't want to look an idiot at Nissan so I put 5 liters back in just in case, and can you believe it the warning went off and all is good  .
No idea why it sorted itself but I have it booked in tomm at 8:30 a.m., not sure what to do, cancel or get it checked, just worried if they find no fault will it be chargeable even though its still in warranty?.
I think now I will just put 4-5 liters in when the warning light comes on, I only do about 8k a year anyway.

Hi,
All done, they said it needed a software update, on the way home I tried the car software update that hasn't worked for a year and low and behold it updated from 804 to 818, happy days.

Hi all,
It is my first post in the Nissan forum.
I'm proud Nissan Qashqai 2019 1.5dci owner( at least was till today), when adblue warning shone.
I filled up to the brim arround 10litres and sign stays on.
I read Mark65's solution... but I wonder what type of hose/tube to use? Looks like it's quite curvy path down to the Adblue thank...
Anyway I want to try this approach before start "pay for everything" game with Nissan dealer..
All suggestions are wellcome.

I know nothing about the AdBlue thingamybob other than it’s prone to have problems and it cost my daughter nearly £1000 to get her Audi A4 Avant sorted out.

However, look into aquarium shop for air tubing. Looks narrow and flexible enough to snake around a tortuous path. I wouldn’t be tempted to suck the AdBlue stuff through the tube though.
Our a private message Mark65 to ask him directly.

Hi,

Small update - I managed to restart adBlue sensor with Mark64's approach :).

I bought the tiniest PVC tube , 3 meters length form B&Q and after 3 hours (because of the tiny tube :D ) I withdrew around 14 liters (10 that I filled in and extra 4 from previous content of the tank).
This morning I drove 5 km and put around 7-8 litters adBlue back in, and voila - the warning stops.
Probably will add 1 or 2 liters adBlue on the next diesel refill, but so far I'm happy.

Whole situation is weird, I believe really they have some poor mechanical design of the adBlue tank or level sensor is with bad hysteresis, so is you fill quickly big amount of adBlue liquid, senor stuck and cannot report level change back to the ECU.
And because it is not so important safety system like brake system or airbag system, Nissan don't want to do recall of the 2018 and 2019 diesel Qashqai cars....

So I would say workaround in case you filled up quickly up to the brim adBlue and warning doesn't switch off is:
1. Bringing down level of the adBlue liquid to be less than level by the time adBlue warning start initially. For the example above, I took 10 liters I filed in, and 4 liters more.
2. Wait for a while... (wait over night, but this just happened to me because I started doing this in the late evening and with tiny tube tooks me 3 hours to "suck" back 14 liters ).
3. Drive few kilometers,
4. Take ignition key out.
5. Fill again some average amount back in the tank (7-8 liters in total, or 4 liters more than level when I got initially adBlue warming sign ).
6. Plug back ignition key and start the engine.

If this exercise doesn't help then go to Nissan customer service and book time for the Nissan authorized mechanic (and bring a lot of cash :( )....

Regards
Daniel

Hi, glad I could help a bit with this, I only put 4l of Adblue in when it starts the countdown, no problems so far, seems to last over 5k.

Hi mark

I have the same problem…

“”Well its all been good since my radar update, no problems with the car slamming on the brakes, “”

My QQ is stuck on 804 software as of Jan 2024 . When trying to update goes to a “ downloading screen “ and just stays there .
Also car keeps slamming on the brakes (x2) . Nissan state it had the software update to correct, but I’m not so sure .
It’s book in for a diagnostic check , but I think it all to do with the software.

Would you be able to give me any advice to move forward would be appreciated.

Hi Mark, sorry but I have no idea why mine updated out if the blue after the radar update, the dealer I bought the car from said brake slamming was not unusual, wigan nissan said it needed a radar update as it's too sensitive, did the update and it's done it twice since may 22, if I could I would disconnect it along with the stop start I would, been driving 40 years without this crap including LGV, the ad blue fix was an act of desperation but it was still under warranty then, not now. I noticed no difference regarding software with either version, as for maps I plug my phone in and use Google maps, superior to Nissan's
I would sooner return to my 100A F2 Cherry, Cherry GL, Stanza, Bluebird and Sunny, all easy to fix yourself on the driveway even with the dodgy bodywork.

Hi All, I've been getting an AdBlue low warning that I've remedied by topping up the Adblue more regularly than seems feasible, based on the low mileage I've been doing over the last few months. After smelling a strong odour of Ammonia I opened up the bonnet to find it looks like Adblue has been leaking into the engine compartment, based on the crystalline build up witnessed. My local trusted garage has referred me on to a diesel engine specialist. Any thoughts on what could be causing the issue? This is the first car requiring AdBlue I've owned.

Are you sure it's not the frosty air conditioning pipes? In my opinion, it is not good to add AdBlue regularly. This liquid ages and deteriorates. You should not mix old and new. Wait until the tank is completely empty before adding.
