Hi All,

Had a.mooch under the qashqai yesterday as I have a few things to sort and was absolutely shocked at the auxiliary belt, it literally looks like it's hanging on for dear life. I've had it fully serviced and MOT'd only a few months ago and nothing was picked up!

Using the R9M repair manual, it always states "Replace auto tensioner when renewing belt" or something to that affect.

My issue is, my idler and tensioner pulleys aren't coming until tomorrow, my belt will be collected today and I need to take a 2 hour trip tomorrow. Can the auxiliary belt be replaced temporarily until tomorrow or Thursday latest on the old auto tensioner and Idler Pulley?

It is a bit of a hard one. It is like the question how long is a piece of string. It all depends on loading conditions etc. No one can predict exactly when a belt would fail. I t could last you one more hour of use or even 1 year. A bit of a lottery, I would say

Hi mate, the answer I'm actually looking for is, if I pop to eurocarparts right now, and put a new belt on without also changing to a new auto tensioner and Idler Pulley, would there be any drastic effects on using the new belt with old tensioner and Idler pulleys? The manual clearly states you should replace them all in one go, but I can't do that yet. Logic says, put the new belt on as a belt snapping is much worse than the damage a new belt on old pulleys could cause, but that's my guess?

wait until you got all the parts and do it all in one go. you`ll have been driveing around with the belt like that for ages so a few more days won`t hurt. stuff like that is not on mot check so thats why it`s not listed

Thanks Andy,

I was thinking that on my short journey today, I'm constantly expecting it to go any minute but then I'm thinking of the thousands of miles I've covered with the belt like that so far.. But it would be sods law to snap before I change the belt and tensioner wouldn't it
