Evening all
Hoping there is someone on tonight who can help.
I've just removed the nearside driveshaft by removing the inner boot BUT the clip was not present and the shaft just pulled out.
There are not signs of the clip or a recess for it to sit in
any ideas, is this normal?
thanks
Mark.

It looks slightly different from the 2WD version. The 2WD has notches for the triangular clip ring. This one does not, so probably does not need it.
Many cars do not have the setup as on the 2WD one.

I am not sure what those markings are for, on mine the triangle clip ring went into the joint itself around 5mm inwards and had a groove.
I cannot see anything holding onto those markings that you have arrowed.

the marking are punch marks, the metal moves and closes the gap so the joint will not seperate.
The new joint came punched so I could not take apart to fit the circlip.
I had to grind the high spots to allow disassembly and I then made some small welds to replace what I removed.
If you ever come across a joint like this go and buy a shaft, far too much hassle.

Yes - I'd worked that out too. Economics of mass-production manufacturing today.
Conversely I've just bought and installed a new garage door - talk about over-engineering! It's a German Teckentrup!

this is the procedure provided by skf for anyone who may need this in the future.
Fist step - to remove the center part (spider) using an extractor tool, and to not worry as it is impossible to damage the part.
Second step - the customer can insert the boot on the shaft then insert the shaft into the center part (spider) and put the circlip.
Third step - insert the center part (spider) complete with the shaft inside the tulip, in this case the customer can use the rubber hammer to push inside the tulip with care.
