I am new to this forum. Just bought my 1st QQ. When I open any of the doors, the courtesy light does not come on, only the boot space lamp. The lights work in the "On" position but won't operate when switch in mid-position. I had a Golf before where that was a common problem, and that was a microswitch sticking in the door panel. But my courtesy light won't work with any door.
Hope someone can help.

There's either something wrong with the said switch or the wiring to it. The switches need to be truly in the OFF position (centre position?) for automatic switching from doors opening etc.

You need to check the earthing, as this is where the problem is. As the light comes on when in on position it shows it is working. Check the wires going to all the door switch connectors. Also do not rule out the lamp itself, if removed from the ceiling is it possible to see if the metal is actually touching when you put it in the door position, or has it got corrosion on it that needs cleaning or to give a sound contact.
The lighting receives its current from the BCM (body control module) it is a processor like an ECU for lights, alarm, electric windows etc.

Thanks for the detailed information. Will give it a strip down at the weekend. I'm really pleased with my QQ, even though it's a 2009 model, but it's been looked after perfectly, yet I suppose I will be back on here in the future. A great forum site with what appears to be great members. Thanks again

It was an easy fix in the end. Removed fitting, gave the grubby contacts a good clean with rubbing alcohol and a cotton bud and all the lights now work as they should do. Thanks.
