Hi everyone, I have a grinding and whirring noise coming from the front offside and it's getting worse. It can be heard around 20-30mph and when I slow down, taken it to local garage, not much use. Please I need advice, can anyone help?

Welcome to this forum.

If a garage has looked at it, and not found anything amiss, I'm not sure we're going to be able readily to diagnose remotely. What did they look for? And what have they eliminated?

Do you think it's wheel related? Is it a failing wheel bearing? Does turning the steering wheel make any difference?

What's the model?

What's the mileage?

Any clues anyone from the limited description?

Surely a "garage" could spot worn pads though?

You can test for the wheel bearing by jacking the car up and wobbling the wheel side to side.

To be fair - modern bearings are hard to detect for failure by rocking the wheel as they are of an enclosed ball race construction and not taper bearings.

Only when they are VERY bad will you feel any play in my experience.

The noise is a warning , so take it to a main dealer and not a local if you have no result

Admittedly the last failure I had was on an Ariel Atom which used Rover components...

Not sure if the OP has the problem now 'cause it's a few months ago, but I had the same problem and today I fitted a new NAPA wheel bearing on front OS. It cured the problem completely and car runs beautifully now. It can be an ache of a job (mine was) but with plenty Liquid Wrench penetrating oil, and of course the necessary tools, it all went well in the end despite a lot of sweat and swearing!!
