Qashqai Model: Still looking for one....

Post by ken1970 »

Hi all,im new to the forum and glad a came across it.
I recently test drove the tekna spec qashqai and was really impressed. However the tekna + spec is the one i want due to passenger electric seats for my disabled wife.
My 2 local dealers have been very helpful but both are unable to supply for test drive the tekna + .
Having watched many you tube videos im still not sure if the 20"rims effect the drive and road noise alot or not.
As anyone drove 19 and 20 rims and is there a noticable difference?
I know the 20 have the multi link set up .
Can you have the tekna + with 18/19 rims or does the multi link system not allow this.
Sorry for rambling on but having not placed an order and waiting times i really need to get a move on,as cant wait until dealers have tekna + in for test drive.
Many thanks in advance for replys
Ken

I have the J12 Tekna+ with 20" rims and love the way these look and ... drive.
Former car had 18" rims and, IMHO, the 20" on the new QQ feel just as good on the road.
However, according to QQ reviews the smaller rims should drive/feel even better, but I personally can't determine this being true or not since I never drove a QQ with smaller the 20" / multilink rims.
Another possible hurdle is of course cost (initially more expensive for those bigger wheels and of course when changing tires later on, ... swapping winter tires etc.)
20" comes with milti-link suspension, just like 4WD versions.
But I am sure (QQ) experts on this forum can provide better answers to allow you to make up your own mind (until today I have driven my J12 for ... less than a week!).

Hi, I guess you can change the wheels for 17 with high profile tyres

Another point to bear in mind is users are reporting that the 20" wheels kerb very easily. The 19s on mine seem to have a reasonable overhang of rubber.

I believe you can have 18 or 19 rims on a tekna plus....speak to your dealer they might have a demonstrator they would consider doing a swap on.

The ride on my 19s is very good, better than I was expecting, it did worry me as I'm not one that follows the fad of big rims and tiny bits of rubber

Yes, at least here in Finland. I have my winter tires on 17" rims and I ordered my tekna+ with 19" wheels.

In the UK the Tekna+ only comes on 20" wheels. In certain other countries it's also available on 19" wheels.

Previously the J11 Tekna which came as standard with 19" wheels, was available as a free downgrade to 17" wheels and the J11B was available with a free downgrade to 18" wheels. (Note Nissan specs change all the time so this may not be throughout the relevant life cycles.)

However this downgrade option appears to be missing on the J12. That said I wouldn't expect the different suspension on the Tekna+ would preclude the fitting of wheels down at least to 17".

HOWEVER...

... how quickly do you need the car. At present it appears you're looking at at least 6 months? Seems like some dealers won't commit to dates at all.
