oh as for lag. I truly believe that this is a common issue and you just need to learn how to drive this particular engine to its characteristics. I very rarely have a problem with lag unless i'm doing a rolling start in 2nd gear from idle revs!
However when I first got the car, I was a little off at first until I had a few miles under my belt! SplanK2015-03-10 19:34:33

Is there still a 1.6 petrol engine? I thought they'd replaced it with the 1.2 turbo. I kinda guessed that it was a case of learning how to drive it - and yes, I'm bad for rolling starts from 2nd

yep, 1.6 DIG-T. Still a turbo engine, essentially replaces the 2.0 engine
