Air con intermittent

Hi all

I have a 2016 qashqai and my air con is playing up. I've had it topped up and it's taken a the gas however it doesn't seem to work at first, then after some time u can hear it turning up and it changes to cold by itself! It will usually stay but will keep doing this when getting back in and I cannot work out what is stopping it from just working on the button. When selecting auto it doesn't let u use max bars for some reason. Could it be a fuse issue, electrical issue or something mechanical?
Could I try an Odb reader maybe?
