I may be missing it, but where in that article does it say engine cracking was caused by the thermostat housing failing?

I may be missing it, but where in that article does it say engine cracking was caused by the thermostat housing failing?

This is an article where they mantioned 1.6 diesel engine ,not 1.3 petrol but problem with Nissan is the same

i have a Nissan QashquI 1.3 June 2019 plate 49k miles . Just joining this thread as i appear to have unintentionally joined the list of people having this issue . My story is on Saturday i noticed a burning smell but couldnt isolate it .... So on Sunday i decided to go for a quick spin to see if i could work out what was going on . On nearing home and with the smell resurfacing the car lost all power and wouldnt restart . At no point during any of this did i get a warning light of any description . Car was taken to Nissan who have told me : Engine has lost all coolant , found leak from thermostat , housing requires replacement . Engine has no compression , found air escaping from gasket head - possible engine assembly required - total cost £6k . The engineer who called me said its possible that the engine may be fixable when they remove it - BUT its unlikely .
The car is out of warranty - the last service in June 23 was at a non Nissan garage . Im assuming this means i dont have a leg to stand on . Im investigating other costs with a view to replacing/fixing the engine and then changing the car .
My "annoyance" is the lack of "warning" from my dashboard .

Hello - Stumbled on this board when doing some research and seems like I'm having exact same issues with my Nissan 1.3 DIG-T Tekna DCT Auto. 20 plate.
Bought this car in 2022 from Cazoo with 38k miles on it. I have since driven it less than 5k miles.
I was driving the car after picking up my daughter when I noticed steam coming up from the hood, no warning lights, temperature gauge was normal and the car was actually running fine at that point. I took the car to the nearest garage (2 minute drive from where I was). Explained what had happened and asked them to do a full service off the car as it was there (car was not due for service). Following day the garage tell me that the thermostat housing needs replacing. As it didn't cost a fortune (£375) I agreed to have it replaced which they did and did a full service on the car. As they were doing the service they noticed an oil leak coming from the cam cover, not a massive leak but there were bubbles of oil coming up. I picked the car up and immediately phoned Wilsons and booked the car in with them. Wilsons did their checks and report says

"We have investigated into the issues with your car and confirmed the car has over heated. We have fault codes in the system to confirm this. I suspect this has happened as the thermostat has been leaking. We have checked system and found it doesn't have an air lock. We have carried pressure test and the car is holding pressure and we can not see any external leaks. We have then carried out combustion leak test fluid did not change colour but there is too many bubbles coming up and coolant level is rising too quickly during test. This would suggest there is an internal leak of coolant caused by over heating. The only way we could repair this would be to change the engine which would cost £8465.60. Checked for oil leak and can see that it looks like a leak from the cam cover however the last one we had like this turned out to be a leak past the injector seals. Would need to strip down to confirm."

Car is year out of warranty and after chasing Nissan CS to see if they can help us out as a gesture of good will as this is clearly not normal for a 4 year old car, they came back to us yesterday saying that there's nothing they can do. Part of their excuse (apart from that the warranty was out) was that I took it to my local garage and not directly to Wilsons.

Looks like nissan are using any excuse to get out of it none of my family will be buying nissan again and iam only 3 miles from factory

Hi all,

Just about to buy a 1.3 Nissan QQ N-Connecta from Marshall Nissan. It's a Dec 2020 (70) plate.

I'm really worried about the issue and when asking the dealer they dismissed it and said the housing is fine.

Does anyone know when Nissan updated their thermostat housing and whether the car I'm looking at would fall into one of the ones in the risk category? Or do we not know enough?

Is it easy for the service department at the dealership to let me know which housing my car has, or would they need to take the car apart to do so?
