Phew! was concerned they might have found even more issues and had an even newer part. It has been 2 weeks after all.

See attached photos of the new and the old housings, for comparisson

Cost be £140+tax for the part, and 2.5hrs labour and some coolant at a local mechanic.

The new one seems a little more chunky around the middle and the lower pipe connection.
Sorry I'm being stupid but can you confirm which image is the original and which is the new improved part? I want to get my facts correct if and when i need to challenge them

The first pic (on the plastic bag) is the old housing. It’s still wet with coolant!

I have had the exact same issue with my Quashqai 1.3 2019.
Thermostat housing went on 3rd December. No warning on dashboard, car quickly overheated. RAC man knew what the issue was before he even looked at it and directed me online and I found this forum. I have been following on and off and sad to see how this has become such an issue!

Cut a long story short, I contacted Nissan after seeing this forum and they booked my car in to Ancaster (where I originally purchased the car).
No appointment until 22nd Jan (7 weeks with no car).
Nissan agreed to cover the cost, "gesture of good will" (managed to get this in writing).
When I took the car to Ancaster they were not aware of the complaint. Infact Nissan hadn't even escalated the case!

I had to pay £833. This included the investigations that Nissan requested.
I had the car for a few days and its had to go back to Ancaster as the water pump needs changing and the water leaking has done internal damage. This was rejected by warranty as it was apparently my fault. I obviously knew there was an issue with the thermostat housing! Anyway that's now another £460 I have had to pay in 1 week and for a single parent on a low wage and rely on this car to transport my disabled son I have had no option but to pay. And another week without a car. A car I am still paying on finance. My car was literally 2 weeks out of warranty and only been serviced the month prior.

The Nissan case manager contacted me last week and requested all the correspondence and said she would call this week. I called today as heard nothing. The customer assistant said the case had been closed!!! I was livid as no contact had been made with me. The case was reopened, the CM called me shortly after and said I had not sent over the correspondence - which I clearly did whilst she was on the phone to me at the time. She then went on to say she is confused by this case and also wanted to say that Ancaster are not a Nissan dealer!!
Literally wondering where they get their staff from as they literally have no clue! I left her planning to call Ancaster.

I will keep you updated, but I wanted to know a bit more about the legal cover and how this can help me?

sorry another stupid question. The complaint is still ongoing but at the end of it I will have a new engine, just not sure how much it will cost me! My question to anyone in the trade or been through this before is what effect will having a new engine have of any resale/PE price, given that there is 51K on the clock. i work in property and a new roof (Or any other major component) would increase the value of a house but does this apply to Cars?

I feel for you and am going through a similar argument with Nissan. Have you considered lodging a claim with your finance company? My car is on PCP and Black horse have taken the complaint but have 56 days to respond. Not sure if it will get anywhere but must be worth a try. I also spoke to a solicitor and they could get involved but only once the complaint is finalized. There is also the ombudsman route but i haven't explored that yet
