I had my thermostat housing replaced a couple of months ago (for peace of mind) by western Nissan Edinburgh. But since I had it done I have noticed that the fan is running after being out in the car. I have contacted Nissan and told them that this wasn’t happening before they changed the housing. Their response is that this is normal. But I have been having problems with the battery, the fan is on for about 5 minutes after I switched off which doesn’t seem right, has anyone else come across this , and is it indeed normal as they say.
when was the antifreeze changed? he loses his properties after 5 years
Same thing has happened to my 68 plate qq yesterday. 47k miles. Haven't had time to search through all the pages yet, but what's the general outcome with nissan? Is it worth finding a solicitor/ Citizens Advice before I contact nissan?
Same thing has now happened to me. 19 plate with 50k miles. Keen to hear if there has been any success with Nissan taking accountability for what appears to be a manufacturing fault given all the others who have faced similar issues

How was the failure? Did you have any symptoms? Could you stop the car in time to save the engine?
Time to stop initially. First repair was a suspected leaking pipe. Replaced and appeared to run fine for a few weeks. Since then the engine temperature fluctuates (however never in the red) and coolant slowly leaking - which is suspected to be relating to blown HG
Could failure of thermostat be put down to lack of maintenance from owners? How many of these owners whose thermostat burst actually checked their coolant levels, or any fluid levels, each week? I have known car owners never to have checked any of their fluid levels between annual services (if they even bothered to get an annual service). I think modern car owners have become a wee bit complacent, if car doesn't alert them to a fault they just assume everything is fine. Yes, maybe Nissan should have put a low level sensor in coolant reservoir but it is also up to owners to check levels regularly. Just my opinion.
Hard to say, but yes owners can be neglectful in checking under the bonnet. In this case though the problem seems to be the sudden failure rather than negligence.l of some sort. You'd need someone here to report that they dutifully check levels every week and it happened regardless which I think is the case anyway.
One has to wonder if it could be caused by the thermostat itself getting jammed shut, water pump is still pumping but the pressure builds up until finally it finds a weak spot in the system. In this case it’s the joint in the housing which explodes causing an instant loss of coolant.
My only feelings against that is surely the temperature gauge would rise before it exploded?

Had a 2017 1.5 dci Accenta premium with pan roof and vision pack. Now have 2020 1.3 Tekna .
Unfortunately it happened to me too, qashqai j11b 1.3 dig-t 160cv registered in Italy with 35000km more or less when it broke and it happened in January.
Brought to Nissan they did not contribute in any way to the cost of the replacement which was 395 euros and they assured me that there was no damage to the engine. I find this behavior on Nissan's part shameful and I hope I don't have other surprises like this.
If I can help predict the failure I noticed it like this:
while the car was stopped a large amount of white smoke came out of the rear (the temperature indicator was normal).
A light white smoke came out of the engine hood.
Cold air came out of the air conditioning even though it was set to 25 degrees Celsius.
Since the services do not work in Italy, I was forced to take the car home and then to the dealership and I followed these precautions to avoid damage:
I topped up with water until the expansion tank was completely full.
I set the air conditioning to maximum temperature and maximum power (without the climate pump active).
In my case, with the automatic transmission, I used manual mode, putting the gears as high as possible and trying to keep the revs at a maximum of 1500, stopping after 5/10 minutes and letting the engine cool down.
I hope this little "guide" will never be of use to anyone
