Called in to Hafords for some antifreeze this morning just for topping up, Was told that type D yellow coolant has been replaced by type E blue coolant I've got a 22 plate kadgar 1.3 tce with yellow coolant in it ???.mlan2024 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 4:19 pm Can anyone confirm if blue or red coolant is used in these Nissan engines ? In my Renault red is specified which is typical for aluminium engines. But I've seen it mentioned here that blue is being used in some comments that people have. If it is blue then I find that odd given it's the same engine. This problem doesn't seem to be as prevalent on Renault at all.

Update from 2 days
This may be controversial to some of you but the Nissan original thermostat was returned for refund and a none genuine one fitted. The Garage who fitted the thermostat absolutely refused to fit the Nisan one saying they are absolute dogshit. They fitted a Gates thermostat and he says hes never had one come back yet on a Nissan/Renault or A class merc. Looking at the Gates stat they are made substantially better than OE. After taking apart my old one it looks almost like the thermostat is glued to the housing and the epoxy they use literally just flakes away. He also said that if Nissan fitted a simple thing like a level sensor in the coolant bottle then it would have prevented lots of people having battles with Nissan for wrecked engines. Just another way for Nissan to cut corners and costs. Aparently in the A class thay have a coolant level sensor but not in the Nissan/Renault. The car now back on road and paranoid about checking levels
Btw it was also said not to use tap water with OAT coolant as it considerably shortens the life of of the coolant and also degrades many internal nylon//plasic components due to the mineral/chemical content. A 50/50 mix of both coolant/OAT is what you need. Needless to say i have a 5ltr of 50/50 mix ready in the boot just in case.

Interesting. Although a minor leak like mine was down to the rubber gasket against the engine block dripping rather than the catastrophic failure seen in this thread. Separate issue I would think. The 1.3TCE is very popular in Ireland where I am and in the UKb too, but not much issues thermostat related other than the gasket failing from what I can see for Renault. It is also problem with Renault cars, I visited my Renault service and they told me that they changed around 20 pcs in last year, most of them has just minor leaks.
For QQ it is very specific as model J11B + J12/J12B 2019 and newer are sold only with 1.3 DIG-T, for Renault cars you can choose different engines, only small part of them are 1.3 TCE.
I found many similar issues on Turkey market both for QQ and for Renault Megane 2019+, use google translate for reading.

Turkey is large automotive market and Qashqai was very popular there.

Found it as Mercedes A-Class part, engine M282.914

Qashqai J12 N-Connecta, 140 hp manual.
Not easy to see on phone but that part doesn't seem to be valid for Nissan although maybe someone can double check. Also it seems to be missing the second sensor socket. Mercedes might have the sensor someplace else nearby

EXACTLY THIS!!
The 2020 VW Tiguan we bought PX for our Qashqai (replaced thermostat and PX-ed immediately afterwards- but managed to avoid engine damage) alerted us to low coolant in the expansion tank a few weeks ago. Just with a simple level sensor.
I topped it up but took it to VW to check it out under warranty and they confirmed we needed a new intercooler. Replaced at zero cost.
