We are thinking of conducting a group litigation exercise to try and get somewhere with our car. Could everyone who has had this issue but not managed to get a resolution from Nissan please DM me your details (it can be as simple as a name, contact email and the mileage of your car at failure + model year of the car). I have contacts of a few legal representatives who could represent us so I am going to reach out to them with information and relay back what they suggest.
Thank you.

Hi all
Just went through all the pages quite some read...
As an owner of a 2020 1.3 DIG-T 140 I'm also concerned as well but would like to summarize and keep it to the facts as much as possible.
- mainly the 1.3 DIG-T 140 is concerned, but the 160 has occurrences as well.
I guess the 140 motor was just sold more and therefor has more chances to get involved here...
- most occurrences are signalled in England/Ireland & Spain, not sure whether this is due to sale numbers or environmental/productional reasons
- the problem just occurs suddenly (mostly quite soon after the 3 years warranty period) when the motor is hot so almost always on the motorway.
There are no warning lights when it happens. There are no visible signs upfront, besides one that noticed strange behaviour of the A/C.
- you can check the part visually but as the joint seems to crack suddenly, nothing can be seen before
- there are two part numbers; 110607087R & 110600260R, where the 7087R is the original/first one, the 0260R the replacement/newer part
Both part numbers are mentioned on the aftermarket box but I guess this is merely to show the compatibility of the part rather than being different references
- the QR code on the part shows which version you have. I compared several and found only two and marked the differences which are easily seen without scanning (red is reference point - blue is the difference). On the part itself the part number is also mentioned but sits on the wrong side when installed and is therefor not visible.
- replacement of the part is a ~2.5hr job. Could be done by yourself (with knowledge), by a local dealer or by the dealership. Official price at Nissan is £420-€500 (all in). The part itself costs somewhere around the £180-€215. It's the same part as Renault and you should get it for half the price there...
- replacing the part with the newest version is not per se a guaranty that the problem won't happen after all as this part isn't old enough the have a thorough experience. And then there are also cars with high milage and no problems with the original part. Some claim to change this part preventively every X years (4-5yrs) but that is just based on the delay the original part blew up. (: of which that did blew up)
- Mercedes A class has the same motor and part and there seems to be a solution with metal clips. Strange enough there's no more info to be found (here at least)
- alternative replacement parts (on Amazon f.i.) can be found with a chunkier joint but nothing guarantees a good / better quality than the OEM part. On the newest OEM part there's no clear difference to be seen.
Hope this helps

ps. I'm off to check which version I have

Qashqai J11a Connect Edition 1.6 DIG-T 163PS
Qashqai J11a Connect Edition 1.6 DIG-T 163PS
Would the Mercedes part fit .... seems a different design and looking at the fitting the qashqai is mentioned.
Just to add the 140 and 160 are the one and the same engine just the 160 has different software map..

I also read somewhere that the Mercedes A class has steel clips fitted, I’d love to find out what exactly they are and look like.
Mine is a 160 with 25000 miles from new, my housing looks like new and I check it before and after a motorway journey.
If I decide to hang onto this car for another year or so I might do a preventive change for peace of mind.
My housing is the 7087R one on a 2020 1.3 Tekna.

Same issue just happened with my 20 Auto 1.3 petrol.
Driving at 50mph on A road. Limped for about 6 miles on and off, no other indications. Made it 1m home then temp gauge went red and smell of coolant. Downhill mostly so coasted home at 30.
Topped up with coolant but poured straight out underneath passenger side.
Towed to Nissan and booked in tomorrow. RAC guy said therm housing.
Is it likely my engine is wrecked? Luckily I'm still in warranty by 3 weeks.

Yes. Passenger side front underneath. Also were some smokey pools of coolant in engine.
The part in question is on right side looking from inside the carFrakturHaaz wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 12:23 pm Yes. Passenger side front underneath. Also were some smokey pools of coolant in engine.
