Hi All,

Looking for some help with my new (old) car :D

when at lower revs the car judders and is hesitant but still drives i might add!

The revs are also odd, if i rev the car above 2k then it hangs there for a few seconds, maybe 4 seconds after taking my foot off which i find strange.

When the car has warmed up it seems to idle pretty low at 600rpm too which i find strange.

I have my two young boys in this car

All help is appreciated, thank you.

has car been serviced yearly. new glo-plugs/spark plugs and fuel filter change may help you if you dont know the service history of the car

Hi Andy, thanks for the response.

No idea of service history unfortunately, is there a list of problematic things or things i should probably change just in case?

Thanks

When I purchased my J10 in January, I had the exact same symptoms. It was near shuddering at idle speed and hesitant at pulling away.
I gave it a service, changed plugs, air filter, oil filter, engine oil cleaned out air cleaner assembly and throttle body, also cleaned out the MAF sensor. The spark plug gapping was way out. After I did this the car still has a low idle speed of 600rpm. The manufacturer spec for idle speed is 650 rpm with a differentiation of 50 rpm either way (i.e between 600 rpm and 700 rpm) for the 1.6
After doing all relevant things above, the car was no longer hesitant and does not shudder. It only has the rev hanging when cold, which I believe is a method to warm the cat up quicker for emissions. It only happens when you come to a stop and press the clutch pedal down to prevent stalling. It would rev to around 2000 rpm, then go back down to idle speed.

Hi Silver,

Thats some great advice, i'll crack on and do all that then! thank you very much. i'll report back when completed to let people know if it resolved the issue.

Also.......... the car now squeels...... like a belt noise but goes away when i turn the AC off, any ideas?

Loading on alternator. If you have a chance check for voltage drop at battery. It could well be your drive belt tension. You can try tighten it a bit (think it is a 12mm or 13mm bolt), if it is old though it may be on its way out.

Thanks for the advice, there was no voltage drop, took it to the garage and not happened since.
