Qashqai Model: Still looking for one....

Post by DevsAd »

Hi.

Trying to inform myself on the J11 diesel models. Were both the 1.5 and 1.6 available at the same time? Were they alternatives, or did the 1.6 'take over' from the 1.5?

Do either have a cam chain as opposed to a belt? If 'belt', what are the replacement intervals, and what sort of cost is involved, please?

The 1.6 seems to be a lot more powerful, but are there any other pros or cons for each?

Many thanks :-)

Yes they were available at the same time

1.5 has cam belt, 1.6 has cam chain

Cam belt is 5 years and variously quoted 60k, 72k, 75k and 90k miles. Replacement cost varies quite widely - c. £300-£700

Not sure if you are looking at this from a perspective of buying a diesel QQ, if so I would be mostly focused on the fact that the 1.6 dci is a much dirtier engine from a pollution perspective and it was this engine that dragged the QQ down into diesel gate as opposed to the 15.dci. If you intend to run one long term the cost in potential higher road tax and I believe increased diesel consumption might outweigh any savings from not changing a cam belt every 5 years.

1.5 deisel. Last service in May this year was told by Westway that cambelt should be changed at 5 years although only done 30K miles...put it off as thought at that low mileage wasn't necessary. However further research and asking around it seems the belt will detiorate over time and for peace of mind had it changed last week. £309 Westway main Nissan dealer incl VAT with complementary clean. Took approx 5 hours from drop off to collection.

Depending on what 1.6 diesel you get, my car is £30 road tax a new cam belt every 5 years at prices on here, cam belt is more expensive than the road tax. Keep to the 17" wheel choice and the CO emissions should be 119kg which is the £30 road tax, larger wheels and up goes the road tax, but of course you can add them later

Many thanks all.

Interesting, I didn't know that about the 1.6, fbg - I'd assumed for some reason it was the superior engine. They seem pretty rare in any case, so almost certainly it'll be the 1.5.

Cheers.
