Qashqai Model: Mk.2 Qashqai - J11 (2013–2017)

Post by Kashkuli »

Hello,

Looking at the front of my Nissan Qashqai 2017 I have noticed that I can see straight through the lower grill directly at what appears to be either a mini-radiator or air-conditioning radiator. My question is, is this level of exposure normal for this model of car? It looks very open and exposed to damage from road grit and stones being flicked up into it and damaging the delicate fins of the cooler. There appears to be a bracket with a bolt on that nothing is connected to, is there a grill or mesh protector that's supposed to be attached to this bracket that offers some degree of protection to the inner components?

Thanks!

No, not missing, that is why the aircon fails, its not guarded. Have a look at this thread viewtopic.php?t=8555

Thanks you kindly, glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this. Looks like there's some good fixes on that thread which I'll probably install on my own vehicle. Thanks again.

I'm not at all convinced that's why there have been so many AC condensor failures. I think it's just faulty condensors.

We had a 66 juke, same thing , had it 4 years and no problem, we've a qashqai now, but it's easy to protect it better with the honeycombe, so I'll be doing that, good tip, thanks.

Funny you should say that, my air con has recently failed and I called out a mobile air con engineer who I have used in the past. He advised, as you said, it is a crap condenser and showed where mine has failed. It was at the top of the condenser nowhere near any possible stone damage and over the last couple of years he has replaced several J11 condensers.

I have an automatic and the condenser failed behind the gear box oil cooler so definitely not the result of stone chips.

The engineer did say most failures are due to salt build up from winter driving and subsequent corrosion.

When we had our Condenser changed in 2015 I was under the Ramp looking for tell tale signs and all that was seen were these like Black Gas Marks, there was no evidence of Stone Damage. What was mentioned was the Quality of the Condenser. I think Snow does not cause a problem here as Salt is not allowed on the Roads - Dave 🤗

That is how my QQ looks like. There is some plastic cover in front of that small radiator.
Same as what DaveBerlin showed in his pictures...
