Hi. I was driving along last week and my car hesitated. It felt like the engine misfired or stuttered. It then went into limp mode and a stop/start fault came up on the dash.
I looked up possible causes and it suggested faulty battery. I tested the battery. It was at 12.1V. It was the original 7 year old battery. I charged it up but it didn't hold a charge so I bought a new one and replaced it.
This didn't clear the problem so I ran a diagnostic and I got two codes. P0336 crankshaft position sensor and P0380 glow plugs. So I've replaced the 4 plugs and the sensor.
The P0380 glow plugs code has cleared, but the P0336 crankshaft position sensor won't clear.
Any ideas on why this may be?
Thanks.
Oh, and just to complicate the issue further, 4 weeks ago before a long drive to Wales, I checked oil and coolant etc before setting off. I noticed oil all over the engine cover. The O-ring on the oil filler can had split and oil had been spueing out the top of the engine. Quite a bit had come out and it was pooling around the top of the engine block, around the glow plugs and around the injectors. It was a bit of a mess. I think it happened when I last had it serviced a few months back. Really annoying. Some of this oil could have found its way into the electrical connectors.
Error code P0336 crankshaft position sensor
It was o-ring on the oil filler cap. I replaced it the same day I found it.
Sorry Andy, I just replied to your other post. I've now figured out that I replaced the camshaft sensor and not the crankshaft sensor which why I'm still getting the error code.
I'm getting under the car when I get in from work to try and find the crankshaft sensor.
