J12 2022 Tekna+ xtronic

Phone (Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC) running Android 11 connects via cable to android auto no probs, but i cannot open an app on the car's screen (other than Waze), without opening the app first on the actual handset. so if i want to listen to Amazon Music, Spotify or my music app Pulsar, and I select it from the car's screen it will not open and displays a message to that effect on the car's screen. If I open the app on the phone it can then be controlled from the car's screen and other apps opened in the same manner on the same journey can be controlled on the car's screen thereafter.

Is there something I'm doing wrong because surely the apps should open from the one's displayed on the car's screen as being available?

I'm afraid you may have to try using another phone (if one is available to you of course).
BTW I was able to connect Android Auto wired as well as wirelessly (using AAWireless dongle) without any problem and without starting the Apps on my phone, but that is with my
Samsung S22 Ultra / Android 12.
