Front Camera replacement

Hi all,

Thank you in advance to anyone who replies.

We have a 2015 Tekna with all round cameras. Unfortunately, the front camera has been smashed (I assume by a stone or similar) enabling it useless. Nissan have quoted a somewhat horrendous £450 for the part, plus fitting and labour to calibrate taking it to over £700!

The front sensors appear to still work, but I'm not sure if they trustworthy now the camera is out - I guess they are?!?!?

Does anyone have any experience of this issue, I'm really keen to know if this is a job that only Nissan can do or if there are other garages that can fit them (I have tired a few but no luck so far).

Cheers

hi Fujikun,

thanks for your reply, I did find those but wasn't sure if it was a case of plugging it in and it'll work. I equally wasn't sure about the calibration Nissan told me about, as mentioned by another garage i spoke to?

From diagnostics it appears that replacing the camera physically is fairly simple. Setting up the camera for accuracy etc is not so simple and beyond DIY and likely a non Nissan garage. Nissans special CONSULT Test/Diagnostic tool is required along with various target line layouts as we might expect.

Procedurally I imagine they may want to check/align all cameras...?

Hi, I wouldve tried it out just putting one on, in the factory on the assembly line I'll bet that's all they do, it's too time consuming surely in production to align each one individually. Sometimes think dealers frighten people into thinking there's more to it than there is. Might be wrong, but I'd gamble £80 first before I let a dealer do it

Its a complete all camera align procedure covering about 4 pages of settings/adjustments and tests. Most modern cars suffer this costly "calibration" problem

i would take a chance get a 2nd hand one off ebay plug it in and see what happens, if it works great then you have saved loads of cash, if it need aligning then just go to a nissan garage don`t tell `em that you have replaced the camera and tell them it`s gone a bit funny and see how much they would then charge you to set it up

Does the front camera require calibration or does this only apply to the one in the windscreen mounting?

Its in the front grille.

The alignment procedure has a full system (all cameras) setup or a "fine tune" of whatever camera is detected (by CONSULT) as "out of calibration". Errors here can mess up the All Round View Monitor Control Unit. That has three DTCs available regarding faults.

Just plugging in a camera from "somewhere" could be a problem other than calibration....?

Front Camera replacement + loom

I have a 2013 1.6L petrol J10 Qashqai, the car was sold as damaged repaired but the front camera was not working. I thought it would be easy enough to repair but the loom connector and camera connector are missing and the wires were just just twisted together. I don't know if they are even the correct wires. I have put a block connector on while I am fault finding. I get about 3.6v on one wire when the ignition is turned on and 3.6v on a second wire when the camera button is pressed so there seems to be some sort of correlation in using that cable..
I saw a front camera for sale online with the connectors and a bit of the loom. The camera wires match up Red, Black, Yellow, White, but the loom wires don't, the ones I have are thin Green/White, Black/Yellow, Blue/Orange, Purple but the bit of loom I saw had thicker Blue, Black, White, Black so the colour is wrong where they connected them to.
Can someone send a photo of where the front camera is connected to the loom please as I can not find a cable to match the Blue, Black, White, Black one anywhere.
