Good morning all,
I just wondered if anyone else had come across this problem... I got into the car one evening and the washers started spraying without me touching anything and they wouldn’t be turned off...
After lots of trying eventually they ran out of water.. I filled the reservoir up and then it seems the pump had stopped. Changed the fuse (what a job that was to find out where it was) which had burnt out.. pump worked .. great..
Next time I turned the car on the washers started spraying again...
Back to square one with seemingly no pump.. haven’t checked the fuse yet...
has anyone any idea what could cause this....
I thought it would be an electric fault somewhere but where and what to do ive no idea..

Any help would be great
Thanks

Was that just windscreen washer or did the rear washer operate as well?

Certainly would be an electrical fault. Its a fairly simple system:

Washer switch on stalk
Pump

The diagrams show a washer pump control unit between the switch on the stalk and the pump. Don't know its location though and there is no separate fuse for it

Thank you. Sounds like a garage job then.

I'd say so.
There is also a possibility of the forward camera initiating a wash/wipe automatically. That appears in Diagnostics but not discussed in detail.

I don't have a wiring diagram to look at, but it's obvious that the pump was getting a continuous supply of power.
The pump will either get a live feed from the control module once you have hit the stalk, or has a permanent live feed and the control module completes the negative side of the circuit to power the pump. Relays are known to stick and are usually a push fit into a socket. If it is a separate control module it may form part of another board.
Not having any knowledge of this car yet, I'm not sure where the control module is located as mentioned earlier in another post. If it was me I would be checking to see if the control module or relay is stuck on and continually supplying power to the pump motor and maybe swap it out. Modern cars have software driven Can bus systems where multiple electronic signals can be sent down the wires simultaneously to control the various systems. Maybe the "switch on" signal is being sent continually by a fault. This is a specialist field requiring diagnostic tools.
If you are confident, get hold of a manual and have a gander, if not then an auto electrician or dealer would be your best route.
Let us know what you find, it could help someone else.
