Hi all,

Virgin post and all that .....

Recently had a run of electrical issues on J10b 1.6dci.

Water in spare wheel well to check (hi level brake light?)

On locking car with remote or door switch get 5 low tone beeps from rear of car (alarm control unit?). Then alarm goes off 2 mins or so later. Other Nissan forums have mentioned bonnet proxy switch (tested switch ok with meter - pressed its OC - also disconnected (thus OC) ... same fault).
Also seen mention of internal back up battery in alarm system ????

Any direction would be fab

Other faults
Exhaust throttle valve actuator/sensor
Stop/start fault ... linked to others ?

Welcome to this forum

I don't have any specific guidance but on other cars water in the spare wheel well is sometimes caused by the rear lights where the gaskets have aged and then let water in.

Thanks for reply. No reversing sensors fitted. 3 months ago fitted a towbar but the wiring has been removed as a process of elimination. This however was not affecting it.

I'm not familiar with J10 security and diagnostics isn't too wonderful. Attached is Security diagnostics...whether 100% right is something else:

Thanks again Calnorth.
Just found a link to a J11 manual and it states : Siren control unit equips a built-in battery. Replace siren control unit once every 10 years because the war-ranty for built-in battery expires after 10 years.• Each time the system switches to the ARMED phase from the PRE-ARMED phase, the self-diagnosis is per-formed by the siren control unit and each sensor. If any malfunction is detected, the siren sounds* 5 times to
inform the driver that a malfunction is detected and the vehicle security system does not function properly.
Malfunctioning part can be checked by “SIREN” in “ACTIVE TEST” mode of “THEFT ALM” of “BCM” using
CONSULT. Refer to

Unsure what CONSULT is (Nissan Diagnostic equipment) .... wonder if it could be the battery if 10 years old. I have disconnected the acoustic sensors, the alarm self test alarm still sounding connected/disconnected.

Consult is their special tool and not available to us. I saw the Battery being in the siren unit. Could be that? Perhaps pull it out for a check. 10 years is a long time for a battery to maintain reliability.

Cheers, I see there are lots of the siren units available second hand .... but can’t seem to find anything regarding changing them out. A mention of ‘special service’ and don’t lock the car after changing .... wonder if changing it could be a Nissan only job ... would need some form of setting up with the BCM/key etc ?

Interesting

I presume that's to a workshop manual since I don't see that in either the J10 rJ11 driver's handbooks.

Yes - I've found it at https://zinref.ru/avtomobili/Nissan/004 ... H/1431.htm

The workshop manual for the J10 states on page SEC-20:

SIREN CONTROL UNIT
Siren control unit manages siren. The siren control unit does not shift to armed phase in the same way as BCM. The siren control unit goes to armed phase after about 10 seconds from lock command. If door is opened or closed within about 20 seconds, only the siren will be activated. Siren control unit has battery inside. If disconnect or connect battery terminal before canceling armed phase, siren will be activated.
CAUTION:
When replace siren control unit (new one and used one), Perform “C/U INITALIZATION” with CONSULT- III.

... and shows the siren's housed in the left wheelarch area and the Siren Control Unit is in the glovebox area on page SEC-21.

Pages SEC-60+61 then cover some diagnosis of the Siren Control Unit but nothing about 5 beeps.

Page SEC-153 covers removal and installation of the siren.

Page SEC-154 covers removal and installation of the siren control unit.

That's then all repeated for cars without intelligent key.

After it's beeped five times have you actually tried opening all the doors?
