Asked at my local forecourt re E10 showing on pumps, and they said the fuel is still E5, and pump
labelling is being done ahead of fuel's intro in their tanks on Sep1.
When used in mowers/ strimmers, gardening forums that new fuel is detrimental to gaskets/ seals etc.
Best stock up on fuel stabiliser to add to the tank mix; previously I only used when machinery laid up over winter.

Esso has ethanol free pumps, even when marked "E5";

What’s in our Synergy Supreme+ 99 premium petrol
Our Synergy Supreme+ 99 petrol has more cleaning power than our regular petrol – and includes molecules whose job it is to reduce the friction in your engine helping the moving parts work more efficiently.*

Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland).
Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps.

There’s currently no requirement for renewable fuel, like ethanol, to be present in super unleaded petrol although this could change in the future, in which case we would comply with any new legislation.

Dave, here are a couple of comments which might help you - Dave 🤭

“Ethanol is more aggressive than petrol to both metals and rubbers/plastics and can, therefore, affect engine parts such as gaskets and seals. Also, the ethanol is hygroscopic (it attracts water), which in some cases can cause issues. So it is advised not to fill up the car with E10 (even if the vehicle is suitable for this) if you are not going to use the car for an extended time.”

It’s all down to that double dose of ethanol. Ethanol is hygroscopic: it attracts water and absorbs moisture from the air, causing condensation and, in the long-term, the corrosion of car parts like carburettors, fuel lines and fuel tanks. To compound the problem, ethanol is a solvent, so over time it will damage any component made of plastic, rubber or fibreglass. Modern fuel-injected cars have fuel systems designed to process E10, which has been a fixture in European countries like Germany since 2011. But for historic vehicles, the added ethanol in the blend spells potential damage, especially if you put it into long term car storage without precautions.

Why I asked is that I let my car tick over for 5 mins and notice excessive water coming out of tailpipe had a problem years ago with a brand new FORD ESCORT needed a new back box after 6 months then again FORD tested the parts and blamed poor petrol and water which I later found out to be true. Friend of mine bought the garage had to give up petrol side thro underground tanks leaking water cars been on E10 for about 4weeks now my new car is the same as the QQ 1.3 160BHP
