Plans for a New MiniCar have just been announced by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today as a joint Venture with Mitsubishi Motors / developed by NMKV Ltd. - Dave 👍😉

NMKV Co., Ltd. is a joint venture company between Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors in the Japanese market to design, develop, and manufacture kei cars under Nissan and Mitsubishi brands. The company currently produces Mitsubishi eK, Nissan Dayz, Mitsubishi eK Space and Nissan Roox for the domestic market.

“Nissan plans to start sales of an all-new, all-electric minivehicle in Japan in early FY2022. The vehicle is part of a joint project with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and is being planned and developed by NMKV Co., Ltd. NMKV is a 50/50 joint venture between the two companies engaged in product planning and project management for minivehicles sold in the Japan market. The planned minivehicle is aimed to redefine the popular car category in Japan, featuring instant acceleration, smooth driving, and cabin quietness that are key characteristics of electric vehicles (EVs). It will also come available with a variety of advanced technologies, including driver assistance Technologies.
With a nominal battery capacity of 20 kWh, the EV minivehicle has a driving range designed to cover daily needs in Japan. In addition to its mobility uses, the vehicle can provide electricity from its battery to a home, and in emergencies can act as a mobile power source. At 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide, and 1,655 mm high, the minivehicle has been designed to provide easy driving and handling in Japan’s often cramped traffic environments. Purchase prices (listed price minus subsidies) are forecast to start at approximately 2 million yen.”

Gloucester, Correct ! It appears that Door Handles are OUT, but could be operated by a Smartphone due to connectivity features and it looks like they do open ! - Dave 😉

“To avoid interrupting the flowing surfaces, the exterior has no door handles. It also replaces traditional side mirrors with cameras. IMk draws on Nissan's new design directive called "Timeless Japanese Futurism. It's packed with other cool connectivity features that can be accessed via a smartphone, according to Nissan.”

“There are also no door handles and no exterior mirrors. Instead, the mirrors are replaced by camera feeds inside, and the doors will presumably pop open by touch. Or maybe the IMk can read minds and will just know when passengers want access. Nissan didn't disclose that part.”

I've often thought that japanese kei cars would sell well in the u.k. but they never exported them, some of the little cars and trucks have amazing space and are really well thought out.
My father in laws subaru Akabo truck is amazing 600cc turbo. Flies along.
All the different companies in Japan make kei cars
I think they are great.
